second hand book shops

Post by ceejay77 »

I have noticed a number of second hand book shops closing and yet I often thought if they dropped their prices they would do better, books with loose pages, pages yellowed or dog ended still selling for $5,people browsing but not buying is a sure sign quality and pricing are not matching up,I would not like to see the second hand bookshops disappearing, what are your views???any dealers out there?

Why go to these shops when you can buy them second hand on Amazon/eBay?

That's the reason why they are closing down-- because of Amazon and Ebay

It is sad to see... I Love going to old book stores and going through all of the different books. Amazon and Ebay are great for people that are searching for something in particular- but I Love just wandering around the book stores.. I hope my favorite one here in Phoenix doesn't shut down!!

I agree... it's a shame to see second hand bookstores closing down. It's hard enough to find one in the first place, and when you do, it seems that not many people are reselling books to those stores cause they can do it easily on amazon. Then you go to amazon and there are already 500 copies of the book for sale for under a dollar.

Bring back the used book stores!!!

New bookstore or used bookstore doesn't matter. What's really important is that you try to find what you want FIRST at your LOCAL BOOKSELLER. It's best for your community!

Repeat after me: Amazon is bad for you.

I think that there has been a slight resurgence in this type of shops over the past few years, thankfully. Hopefully the future is bright for them and us who love to browse and shop there! :)
