Well I don't have any strong choice for male or female author. If writer is good and book is good, it is enough for me to choose writer.

For me, the gender of the author is very important. For instance, I believe that masculine authors write better thrillers, and feminine authors write better romances. I always consider the gender of the author before I read the book. There have been times when I read a thriller by a feminine author. It happened when I was especially interested in the subject matter. There have been times when I read a romance by a masculine author. It was when I was especially interested in the perspectives of men on the subject matter. I am otherwise gender neutral.

Generally, I prefer a book that was written by a feminine author. I would rather read feminine ideas. However, most authors are masculine. So, I do read mostly masculine books. I do enjoy the stories that they tell.

It doesn't matter to me. I love both male and female authors as long as their books are good. Gender isn't a setback to me.

Timothy Zahn & Harold Coyle, both men, are my favorite authors across the board (typically fiction). HOWEVER, Jane de Longh & Leonie Frieda are two of my favorite non-fiction authors for historical reads (both women).

In my opinion, the gender of the author does not play a significant role in determining the quality of their writing. What truly matters to me is the author's skill in manipulating language and their ability to captivate my imagination with their words.

It is essential to appreciate that each author has a unique voice and style, regardless of their gender. As such, it is essential to approach each author's work with an open mind, free from any preconceived notions about their abilities based on their gender.

It's not about whether the author is male or female. It's about their ability to weave a captivating narrative, employ descriptive language, and connect with the reader on an emotional level.

For me I would go with both. This is because there are many books I have read from both male and female authors which are equally great and to choose would be a very difficult task.

I read a lot of dark romance and smut, so for that genre, I prefer female writers. I feel women know how to write sex scenes so much better than men and really describe the details. In addition, I find that men over-describe women and describe them usually as thin blondes with big boobs and I don't relate to that at all. Male writers also tend to dramatize the size of the male genitalia to unbelievable proportions.

For horror novels, I prefer male writers. I have found that male horror authors are fantastic at adding the "spook factor" I'm hoping for and describing the fear very accurately in the novels. I also read a lot of extreme horror and find that men are mostly prevalent in that sub-genre due to the content and the descriptions of such disgusting and vile scenes.

I've also found that women write better romance books and men write better detective thrillers or mysteries. So for me it depends on the genre.

With this topic, I've found that I like to read books that have great plots. It doesn't really matter who the author is. But I did notice that I tend to feel emotional while reading books by female authors, and that I get swept away into plot-driven stories written by male authors.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I think there should be a third option on this poll: Don't Care (as long as they are good)
I agree with you. As look as it's a good engaging read, the gender does not matter.

I don't really have a preference when it comes to choosing the book, but I have found a lot of difference between male and female authors, especially when it comes to describing romance and erotic scenes. Female authors, especially the young ones, are more realistic in describing couples and love.

I find that female authors are not prone to include extreme violence or to glorify it.
When I read zombie themed books, male authors loved to include scenes of female objectification and graphic violence, while female authors just said things as they were, they had no need to go to extremes.
The only genre where I can't say that female authors are better (because I haven't read any yet) is in the Espionage genre.
