Weather was really weird, first couple of days beautiful sunshine absolutely georgous then lashings of rain followed by actual snow

And amid all the museums, galleries, shops and restaurants I even managed to fit in a visit to a Barnes & Noble & of course the Chicago Public Library - bet you are all surprised by that!.

This was my first time in the US and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it. For a big city it was a pleasant surprise to find the people, bus & taxi drivers even stranger on the street so helpful and incredibly friendly.
An immensly enjoyable holiday & fingers crossed I'll be back.

Welcome back Fran. I am glad you had a good time.Fran wrote:I've just returned from a fantastic break in Chicago, beautiful city, lovely people and loads to see and do. Met up with some family members I hadn't see for such a long time, which was brilliant & also did all the tourist things. So many fantastic museums and galleries and such amazing architecture: given my interest in WW11 (and all the books I've read on the period!) the highlight for me had to be the tour of the U-505 submarine at The Museum of Science and Industry & the coal mine tour - awesome really is the only word.
Weather was really weird, first couple of days beautiful sunshine absolutely georgous then lashings of rain followed by actual snowand OMG it got so cold. It was a shock after leaving Ireland & a fabulous Spring with abundant daffodils and cherry blossom to find the trees in Chicago looking like a mid winter landscape - rather weird.
