Re: Does Page Count Affect Your Decision To Read A Book Or N

Definitely not a good book is a good book no matter how long it takes for the story to unfold. I've read books that took two days and said to myself-wow, that was a good book.

I think a long book does appear more daunting than a short book. And a short book never feels like it has enough time to get to a full story. I'm reading 1356 right now by Cornwell and it is a mere 400 pgs, after reading a full Game of Thrones series, this short book does not seem very in depth.

Not really. What i do is read short stories when i don't have much time, and leave the big books to read them in vacations

Sometimes, I will read a shorter book if it sounds incredible and has great reviews. But I won't spend more than $.99 on it and I prefer to get it for free!
I prefer long books.

Hmmmm...Now this is an interesting question. number of pages do not really affect my reading but then it also depends on my mood. Sometimes, I am in the mood for a short quick book that I can finish it off the same evening.

Obviously if the book is less than 200 pages I generally don't read it.

It wouldn't impact my decision of not to read a book at all; it may impact my decision of whether to read it at a particular time ... if I want something easy to cart around I'd go for a shorter one, but not too short or it will vanish before I'm ready :)

Page count doesn't impact if I buy a book or not. I don't think it impacts me from reading either. It is true though, that shorter books don't have the time for you to really get to know characters and build up fantastic plot. Whenever I read books under 300 pages, I usually end up rating those books 3 stars because there was nothing mind-blowing about them. I do tend to prefer books 300+. As for max number of pages, 800 is about all I can handle.

I generally like books with 200 pages or more. Anything less and the story ends too soon. I want to spend at least two or three days with a book instead of a few hours.

I find that page count isn't generally that important when I am choosing a new book to read. I will quite easily pick up a short story if I don't have that much time or a longer book if I have plenty of time. :-)

It can now that I think about it. I very rarely look at such superfluous things such as page numbers or chapter numbers, but I rarely pick up a book that's less than 300 pages. Not that I actually look at how many pages are in it before I read...just thinking about it I have realized I rarely read a small book. Should it matter? No. I have ready plenty of good books that were simply one step beyond a short story.

Not really. I might avoid reading a book that's extremely long if I had just finished a different book that was also extremely long (over 1,000 pages), but even then I'd probably just read some shorter books whilst reading the longer one to break it up.

Not at all I pick up a book for the story. It doesn't matter to me if it takes 20 or 2000 pages to tell it.

Now that I read a lot of free ebooks, I really don't pay attention to what the length is anymore. Since most of them don't have actual page numbering...just a percentage once I download them, I guess I should check the Amazon description first.

The only time I will read a short book is if I need it for a series. I usually feel like something is left out if it isn't long.
