I'm always looking for new books aimed for children and young teenagers that depict people and circumstances that are very different from the life they live in a large city in the United States. I believe this is one of the best ways they can learn about diversity, culture and personal values. Thank you for your in-depth review of the book--I got much more detail from your thoughts than from the brief excerpt I read. I agree with you--this is the kind of book that should be made available to many teenagers.

This is a good book to teach young adults that no matter what they may encounter in life, they can overcome it with resilience and determination. Thank you for your review.

After reading the sample, I can see and feel the African side in the story. Being an orphan is never easy, but being an orphan in Africa is much worse at times. Luckily the kids have Aiyasha to be there for them and look after them.

A very timely and sensitive book. I found it was more directed at teenagers than adults, and couldn't read more than the first few chapters. I do agree it belongs in school curriculums.

We should have more such books. It is only for good that young people know somewhere children don't have enough food or no shelter. Reading sweet romances does not help our children be understanding and good people.

It is true that not all children are treated equally, but eventually, in life, you have to deal with the difficulties you encounter, which is exactly what the protagonists in this book do.

It takes a great amount of skill to handle such complex topics as race and poverty in a book about children. Excellent review, and congrats on book of the day!

A good review it seems from reading it that the story is a mixture of sadness and determination. Children's rights are an important topic, especially orphans. The review shows how interesting is the book and it will be a great reading
Life is hard on its own so let's make it easier for each other if we could.

Your review was incredibly well-worded and showed the promise of a great book. The sample pages were very touching and heartbreaking. Reading about the Bundu orphans and how the community had given up on such young children was utterly disturbing. I enjoyed the author’s writing style; he connects with the young audience by narrating the story as one of the orphans. Congratulations on being nominated BOTD!

Wow, I feel like this book represents real life struggles. I hope it inspires both unfortunate and fortunate kids to look at bright side of things and overcome the difficulties. This book looks very deep in meaning.

It's too bad that just because some don't have as many material possessions as others, they're labeled less intelligent. Congratulations on BOTD!

Resilience and Determination don't come by easily. It is hard to be viewed as being different when everyone else is tagged “normal”. I can imagine the life of a girl who once had a family and suddenly became an orphan and had to be saddled with the responsibility of caring for others even amid all odds.

Aiyasha must be a special one. It takes an exceptional person to look out for the welfare of others. Children will learn good lessons from this book.

Since you recommend it is must-read for teenagers, then it must be a really good and inspiring story made for all young adults. Thanks for a very comprehensive book review of this book.
