Any of you have a favorite children's author?

Since children's literature is a forte of mine, I have many children's authors that I like. My all-time favorite has been and still is Tomie DePaola. He is an incredibly talented storyteller as well as illustrator.

Can't say that I have a favorite but lately I'm really liking Joseph Delaney. He writes the Spook series, really good books for older children and adults as well.

I really liked R.L. Stine. The Goosebumps series was my favorite to read when I was little.

No single favorite author for me, but here are a few outstanding books that come to mind...

I simply adore William Steig's Sylvester and the Magic Pebble. That's my only "very young reader" entry.

The remaining books are all works that older children and adults both enjoy: Stuart Little, Steig's Dominic, The Phantom Tollbooth, and Thurber's The Wonderful O.

As a boy, I read a lot of C.S. Lewis, Jack London, Rudyard Kipling, Wilson Rawls, and even Judy Blume. I think all of those authors are excellent. Right now, I love reading Dr. Seuss to my toddler, especially Fox in Sox.

I love all the books by Enid Blyton, R.L. Stine, R.K. Narayan, Roald Dahl, Ruskin Bond, E. Nesbit..

R.L. Stine's Goosebump series was my favourite series to grow up on. I really liked Robert Munsch as well, his stories were always so creative and funny! And dare I forget to mention Dr. Seuss. I loved that he encouraged imagination and creating new words!

Hm... Children's authors... experts in the language of the midgets... from among these I have to choose one... I think Lewis Carrol was the wittiest, though C.S. Lewis had some great ideas when it came to teaching the world about the deeper things we all ask about, and J.R.R. Tolkien was just, you know, brilliant... Hard to choose... Oh, and I loved the books "Stellaluna" and "Guess How Much I Love You?" Robert Munsch was a bright one. Dr. Suess wasn't bad, either... How to choose? I grew up with so many of them! Um... Um... Um... Well... Here's... You see... I'm thinking... I'll have an answer... Okay, TOLKIEN! I'll go with him. He's a great name, an admirable one in the world of great literature, for sure. Yeah. That's it.

Mine was Roald Dahl. Hands down. I read and re-read Willy Wonka and watched the movie with Gene Wilder hundreds of times. 2nd on my list was James and the Giant Peach. The stories of poor, destitute children winning big just spoke to me!

I agree! "Strega Nona" and all the others can be reread endlessly. The Italian theme is a plus. My late mother-in law was Sicilian...good books about the culture too.

So many favorite children's authors...Sandra Boynton, Dr. Seuss, Maurice Sendak, Ronald Dahl, Judy Blume, Beverly Cleary...
