Do you picture actors in your mind when you read?

Many times! I just finished reading Mr. Lynch's Holiday and I could see the main characters played by Seth Rogen and Liam Neeson.

Not really. I have only pictured actors when reading one time, while rereading "Pride and prejudice".

I don't. I usually form a picture in my mind based off of the description by the author. I actually prefer authors that don't provide too much description, though, so I can imagine the character to look how my mind will allow it.

To gali: That's interesting because I've heard many people say the same thing about Pride and Prejudice. What is it about that book? Maybe it's possibly because Jane Austen dared to portray women contrary to what was acceptable to society standards of the time.

Only if I've seen a movie based on a book before actually reading the book, otherwise I imagine the characters the way they're described.

I typically try to read a book before I watch a movie about it. When I read the book before the movie, I typically envision what I think the character might look like in my mind. I think when I read the Hunger Games series, I read the first two books before watching the first movie. When I read the third book, I incorporated the characters of the movie into my vision while I read it.

I really think that if I do see a movie before reading the book, if the characters look the way I would envision them, then I would incorporate their likeness into my reading. If not, then I will develop my own vision.

I try to picture the character by how the author describes them. I do not always agree with who they choose to play parts in the movies that are based on books. This is because, they never look like what I pictured.

Not unless I've seen the movie first which is rare. The only exception to this was the book The Godfather. I had read the book first then saw the movie. Then it really got crazy. I later began to believe with total confidence that events which took place in the book had actually been included in the movie when they had not. I could visualize the actors playing out scenes in the movie in my mind, with total clarity - scenes which had never been filmed - the second time I read the book.

Yes. And it's always the same actors. Like, Gary Oldman. Brilliant actor.

To prisailurophile: Oh, now this is interesting! I've seen him, too, in my mind's eye, fitting nicely in a character. I agree, he is a brilliant actor!
