Until recently I thought I enjoyed getting book suggestions. It was brought to my attention that I get rather anti any book that is suggested towards me, but if an author is suggested then I do not have the same reaction. I'm not sure why I don't enjoy book suggestions but it may be because I like feeling that I discovered the book/story from an author that I really love.

If the recommendation is from someone who I have come to know reasonably well and whose tastes often mirror my own I will be much more receptive to taking a chance on a book they recommend. Just being friends with someone is not always a justification for believing that you will enjoy what they suggest in reading material.

This extends to other things as well. My sister is a case-in-point. We were raised by the same parents and led pretty much the same kind of childhood, but my sister grew up to be a great traveler. I am not. I HATE to travel. She and her husband have traveled all over the world and she constantly tells me that I should go to THIS place or go to THAT place. I tell her, "No ! YOU should go this place or go to that place. I should stay right HERE."

(with thanks to Mr John Milton) :)

Likewise, both my sisters are readers but we share nothing on genre. One only reads factual books (she's one of those "IT engineering" types  ) and it is very difficult to get my youngest sister to read anything that doesn't include multiple horrendous and gruesome murders.

To be honest, though we would discuss books, no way would I take a recommendation from either of them.
My younger sister has borrowed books from me occasionally but, apart from the Scandanavian crime writers, she generally considers my choices way too tame! Despite my best efforts not a hope in hell of getting either of them to read Classics.
Ah well, at least they are generous with the book vouchers! :)

Yes, and John Milton practiced what he preached too. He made his daughters stand and wait on him. Reminds me of Grandma Antonia. *LOL*

PROCLAMATION !!!! Let it be known throughout the land that Fran is one whose book recommendations I will unhesitatingly heed.

I am constantly searching for book suggestions. The suggestions of others has introduced my to many amazing authors that I may not otherwise have read.

I love it, I'm always looking for a good read and I like a wide variety of books to chose from.

I love a good suggestion from someone that knows what I typically read. If its a person that doesn't know what I like then no, please keep the suggestions to yourself....thank you!

Only from three people. A close friend of mine who reads a lot, my cousin who actually KNOWS my preferences, and most importantly, my brother.

Most of the people that know me, know the type of books I like to read, so getting suggestions from them is actually really helpful. I have received a lot of suggestions for books where I loved the books that were suggested to me.

I like it. I like when someone who loves what I love tell me they loved a bok and to try it out.

I like getting suggestions because most of my friends know what types of books I prefer and their suggestions are usually dead on.

I like getting suggestions for books. It opens up possibilities. If I don't enjoy a particular book or author, at least I've had the experience.
