I was going to share an incident I had today with my retirement/financial group but, hey, this group might enjoy it more: I sold my 1980s audio cassette of John Cheever stories last week and got an e-mail saying it was a gift and to leave out the invoice. Well, today the recipient looked me up and called, absolutely baffled. He was confused because he had ordered a Cheever CD set from another company. So now I’ve become the liaison between him and his secret gifter; will the gifter reveal him or herself; is it a former student, friend, or relative; will it become a good short story? Anyway, the point of telling you this is that it was such a joy to speak with someone who had even heard of John Cheever, turns out the guy is an English prof. who went to a lot of trouble to acquire the original issue of “The New Yorker” that contained “The Swimmer,” etc. as did I at some point.

Hoping to have similar chats on this site. Currently reading “Cutting For Stone” by Abraham Verghese.

I noticed a nice discussion with funny video of “I wandered lonely as a cloud.” Will join in soon.
