This book has great character development. I don’t like fantasy novels but I appreciate the adventure. Congratulations on book of the day!

I wrote one comment before, but it is not showing.
The talking animals are great. I liked the honesty in your review. I think I will pass on this one for now. I do not want the heaviness you spoke of.

The storyline sounds intriguing-with two talking creatures, Jim searching for his friend,  a dose of fantasy and religion. amid passion, friendship, and magic. Verna's review is interesting. Congratulations on winning BOTD!

The three strange companions coming together and their search for Jim's friends lead them to an adventure, and it seems worth reading this dystopian fiction to know how Jim and his companions find Jim's friend.

Wonderful review of a riveting story. The sort of story I like to read. Great characters. I agree with the reviewer on so many points. 4 out of 4 for the review. As a child, I loved animal stories. This adult story with animals which talk to each other is perfect for me. The aspects of persecution of Bible readers and a world ruled by a one world government are so realistic. There has always been persecution of religious folk and it is going to happen more so in the future. Something very sobering about a book which is interesting, entertaining, and with basic truth running through it. The caution by the reviewer is wise but it wouldn't stop me reading the book in its entirety.

When Jim finds unconventional friends in the form of a dog and a cat, an emotional adventure toward survival in the Smoky Mountains begins.
This seems like an interesting book, but I cannot help but wonder what the name of the puppy is and why it was never mentioned in the review.

Both the characters and allusion to the Holy Bible sound refreshing next the normal depressing dystopian themes. I mean who could be too upset when you're reading about a puppy?

Love your voice, and thank you for your review. You make the book sound lovely!

Talking animals are always fascinating! However, the dystopian fantasy theme with references to the pandemic, religious war and other similar heavy-hearted themes aren’t something I’d wish to read about at the moment. Nonetheless, congrats on the BOTD!

[/list]I loved seeing and identifying with the strengths and weaknesses of the different characters how their faith and prayer allowed God to work in their lives.

Thank you for the great review. From the sample I liked the character development on Mattie, Carl, and Jim. I am an animal lover, so enjoyed how they interact and converse with each other and Jim. I didn't notice any mentions of the Holy Bible in the sample, but being a Christian, I'm sure I would enjoy that too. I don't usually care for the fantasy genre, but when I deals with cats and dogs, I don't group that into fantasy, so I believe I will add it to my list of books to read.

Kim Cousins seems to be a creative writer bringing together fantasy, dystopian, and religious themes in this book. I am curious about the foundation of biblical salvation brought into this dystopian storyline. Your review is well written covering various aspects of the book.
Congratulations Kim on the BOTD!

A scary, but heartwarming story of survival in a world torn apart. The unlikely trio consisting of a kind, compassionate soldier, a courageous cat named Carl, and a smart little puppy, set off on a very dangerous journey away from the destruction and turmoil of the world they once knew. I get a sense of hope for the future throughout the story, even with dangers they face. There is a spiritual aspect that gives the reader some comfort. The fighting spirit of the trio and the people they encounter, encourage me to continue to read the entire story. Thank you for the great review.
