I am immensely glad not to be the only one who was disappointed in the movies. I have the book series and the sequel book series (Heroes of Olympus), and seeing the way the movies left out many important details was hurting me as a major fan of the books.
The movies felt rushed to me in a sense perhaps due to low budget or other. Anyone else felt the movies was rushed too much as with the terrible way the books was adapted?

I really like the Percy Jackson series I read all of them multiple times when I found out that there were movies I was on top of the moon but when I saw it it wasn't much related to the books but I still enjoyed the movie. There is always a scope of improvement

Been out for awhile and this is late but thanks for agreeing LinaMueller. They are actually currently trying to make it into a tv series I'm not sure if you've heard or if it did end up going through and I just don't know. I'm hoping it's better than the movies. When Kronos came out in the SECOND movie already and also was that weird fire thingy I was so annoyed. I'm re reading the series recently for the fourth or fifth time and it's so good in the books. Love that the hero of the story isn't the only one in the prophecy and that one of the villains actually has a helpful peace of the prophecy. I can't wait for the new PJ book Chalice of the Gods to come out in like a week or so! Supposed to be just lighthearted and fun like expected from PJ but without the also seriousness of fighting a villain!

I am a little late to this but I think the movies aren't bad if you completely ignore the fact that they are related to the books. I watched the movies before reading the books and I enjoyed them, but after reading the books, I realized they changed so many important things, even the author complains about that. However, the TV - show is coming and it seems promising.

The Percy Jackson book series, written by Rick Riordan, is highly regarded by many readers, particularly fans of young adult fantasy literature. The books follow the adventures of Percy Jackson, a demigod and the son of Poseidon, as he navigates the world of Greek mythology. The series incorporates humor, action, and relatable characters, making it popular among its target audience.

When it comes to the film adaptations of the Percy Jackson books, opinions are generally mixed. The two movies released, "Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief" (2010) and "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters" (2013), received a lukewarm reception from both critics and fans. Many fans of the books felt that the movies failed to capture the essence and depth of the source material. Some of the key points of criticism include:

1. Deviation from the source material: The movies made significant changes to the plot, characters, and overall tone of the books. Many fans were disappointed with these alterations, as they felt that the changes weakened the story and undermined the original themes.

2. Lack of character development: The movies struggled to fully develop the complex characters present in the books. Important relationships and character arcs were either rushed or omitted entirely, leading to a loss of depth and emotional impact.

3. Simplification of the mythology: The rich and intricate world of Greek mythology, which was one of the strengths of the books, was simplified and watered down in the movies. This resulted in a loss of the depth and complexity that fans appreciated in the source material.

4. Underutilization of humor: The books are known for their witty humor and clever dialogue, which adds to the overall enjoyment of the story. The movies, however, often downplayed or missed opportunities for humor, resulting in a less engaging and entertaining experience.

That being said, it's important to note that some viewers who hadn't read the books enjoyed the movies as standalone fantasy adventures. The movies had visual effects, action sequences, and a basic narrative structure that appealed to a broader audience.

In summary, while the Percy Jackson movies may be entertaining on their own, they generally fell short of capturing the magic of the book series. The books are appreciated for their engaging storytelling, well-developed characters, and rich mythology, which the movies were unable to fully translate to the screen. Therefore, many fans of the books tend to prefer the original source material over the film adaptations.

I agree completely. The books were amazing but the movie was a bit of a let down for sure. It didn't stick to the details of the book and missed alot of important information as well.

The books were absolutely better, I don't think anything can really compare to them. However, speaking of the movies, they were definitely good. They were well-made and portrayed in a fun way. I just think they should have called it something else. It didn't fit the books, the way it should have but as a separate movie series, it was great. That being said, the Disney show, which was supposed to be more accurate, was also a letdown. The first few episodes were great, but it kind of flatlined and got boring after a while, still nothing like the books. Oh well, book supremacy.

I don't know about everyone else, but sometimes the movies actually intrigue people, like myself, to read the books. So for me it was the reverse affect. I enjoyed some of the movies that came out, specially for the sake of my kids, more importantly, and was so enthused by them that I end up starting up reading the novels. Glass half full kinda guy, I guess...

The books were top-notch and the movies were a tad disappointing in that sense. Though you could put down Annabeth's hair color and texture to individual choice, these are details that fans of the series look out for and something that the movie makers ought to have anticipated. On the other hand, the movies are also good PR for the books, as it gets a whole new set of readers to try the books.

I haven´t read the books yet and heard great things of them so far. And personally I don´t really like the second movie, though, it was kind of slow and don´t like how the characters were portrayed. But the first... it´s my guilty pleasure; I like the plot, the worldbuilding and the Lotus Casino scene. So I´m looking forward to read the books one day!

I hate them I hate them I hate them!!! Gosh, I grew up devouring those books (anything by Rick Riordan, honestly). I was that annoying kid that would only talk about Greek mythology and knew every single myth there was (which came to be quite useful in high school with my ancient history classes because, yeah, easiest A+ of my life). But ugh, I remember being so excited about the film, my brothers and I were huge fans and bothered our parents for days to be taken to the cinema to see it. And our faces after it... I don't think I've ever been more disappointed by a film in my life (looking at you Avengers: Endgame), and then they went and made a second one??? That was even worse??? I honestly, don't know who green-lit those two projects, but I hope they don't work in book to TV/Cinema adaptation anymore because they did an awful job...

OMG!!!!! Look, the books are arguably the best series of all time!!! But the movies were disappointing. To someone who hasn't read the books, it might be great. But to the ones that read the books, it's an insult! Like, how does a 12-year-old look like he's 25!? And the plot was, ugh!!! I can go on and on about those horrible movies. I was so excited when they announced the Disney+ series in 2020, but I am not happy with that either. It's a more faithful adaptation, but still, like blond Percy? Black Anabeth? Like Black Zeus??? I mean, I have no hate towards the actors, but I feel nowadays older books and things are being ruined by the standards. Like, yes, Black actors matter, but that's not what the books described! Still, I am excited for Season 2 to see how they do with Grover in a wedding dress, lol.
