Her Daughter's Dream by Francine Rivers

Post by indiereader »

Hello all! I just finished this novel this morning and I enjoyed it. It was a Christian romance story and it spanned over 4 generations of women. I loved the fact that it had a compelling storyline and you followed all the womens individual stories as well as the collective story they shared. The main character of the book May Flower Dawn wasn't even born into the story until a third of the way into the story but she left you feeling inspired and hopeful. You as the reader are left wanting to know more about your family and to get closer to them as well.

I am not sure what you mean Florence .. what is your question?

Here is my review of the book:
Her Daughters Dream by Francine Rivers is a great sequel to Her Mothers Hope. Carolyn struggles to grow up in her family. Her mother Hildmara is quarantined to her bedroom with a disease called tuberculosis. Carolyn quickly forms a bond with her “oma” (grandmother) Marta who is living with them to help out during this hard time. Jealousy quickly grows and tension begins and Carolyn feels responsible. Carolyn grows up and is goes off to college to figure out who she is. Quickly though family tragedy shatters her recent discovery of her independence. Instead of choosing to go home she disappears only to reappear two years later looking to her family for help to rebuild her life with her daughter May Flower Dawn. Just like Carolyn, May Flower bonds closer with her grandmother then her mother. Which once again brings tension in between mother and daughter. Dawn notices the trend between generations and is set on mending the past. This is by far an unforgettable family saga.

I recommend this book to teenagers and adults. It is a great insight on mother and daughter relationships.

This was a great story and a great reminder on forgiveness. We may not realize it but if we do not forgive people from our past we could pass those grudges/beliefs onto our children. I cried a lot towards the end since something happened that is my husbands biggest fear that someday it may happen to me.

The first book in this series was very hard to get through. This one was better by far and I really enjoyed it. Francine Rivers is a very talented author that sucks you into her books every time. You feel as if you are that character understanding and feeling their emotions so strongly. Her stories always come to life and always deal with real life issues that make you re-evaluate your own life. I also love that she always shows Christ’s love in her books and the power of His redemption.

While reading this book I was noticing my own foster daughters repeating the so called sins of their own mothers past and feeling frustrated. Why couldn’t they break from the bondage. When the enemy has a stronghold in the family it can be past down from generation to generation. We need to confront our sins ask for forgiveness and become better parents so our children do not have to go through the struggles we go through. God can redeem us only if we look to him and change our ways.

I rate this book a 4 out of 4 stars.
