Re: Why do you like reading?
For many number of reasons
Number one is I like to escape into a fantasy world and experience new things.
If it is a self help guide I read for knowledge and to gain some insight into the topic
If it's a murder mystery I like the thrill and the adrenaline rush.
If it's a paranormal mystery I like the excitement and suspense if what next and so on.

First and foremost to escape into a make believe world and enjoy it's crazobess
Second is for the knowledge and information it imparts on us
Third is I like the thrill and suspense and adrenaline rush it gives
If it's a paranormal mystery I like the challenge and danger it creates
Whatever the genre it gives us a chance to experience and live it.

Many times I have heard people say they loved the book but hated the movie. I too am more inclined to favor written literature over visual literature, but I taught both to my students, and I explained the variations this way.
The same subject in art will take on a unique perspective with each new medium. A watercolor and an oil painting will accent different aspects of the subject and connect with its audience in new ways, and a sculpture transports the subject into a whole new realm. It is a blessing to see the different sides and interpretations from a variety of artists.
But reading offers a more personal connection than any other medium. The writer talks to me inside my head with well crafted sentences, and together we share intimate thoughts that inspire, shock, and entertain. I get to digest the message on my time schedule, allowing it to resonate and develop into something mine alone. In full context, I can easily collect poetic lines and meaningful perspectives for continued reflection. The better the writer, the more intense the bond and the experience. A good writer and I form a relationship deeper and more honest than any other medium can provide.
That’s why I like reading.

Number 2 is reading exposes me to other people's ways of thinking, their beliefs and realities, especially the non fiction books.
Reading is also a form of temporary escape from my realities; one is transported to a world of fantasy.

It has been so long since my last topic forum discussion. But I'm so here for this question.
I actually used to get in trouble for reading in class, especially during classes I didn't particularly like (Math, science, literally anything other than English Lit.) I believe we all have different intimate relationships with reading.
My roommate who actually works at Barnes & Noble reads a lot of gruesome and artistic work like Manga I actually asked her why she chose that particular type of work, she explains it as being able to see and have a more personal introduction to the characters rather than imagining them throughout her read, being enveloped into the art just as much as the storyline. As for me Romance has always been my favorite read. As a 21 yr old woman I have seen the worst parts of love, the down and dirty, the divorce, the new love, the starting over.. so as I open a book and get to re-experience that falling in love feeling, along with the butterflies and the chuckles from second-hand embarrassment it allows me to put myself directly into my characters world and imagine love as new and exciting again. Something that we don't talk about enough is the escape we get in this entirely new fascinating realm. For me, when I go to pick up my book I feel a sense of safety and joy that you can't just exactly get from experiencing your own life.
