Re: Coffee or Tea?

I go back and forth. I agree that the key to productivity is a big cup of coffee and a cigarette on the porch to start the day. Unfortunately...I quit smoking, which has hindered me greatly. In quitting smoking, I switched to tea, which I've always drunk, because coffee made me want a smoke. I prefer Barry's Tea, the gold blend, with two sugars and a dash of milk, before getting back into bed with my laptop to start writing (the opposite end of the bed from where I sleep). Now, my brother works at Starbuck's, so I am back to coffee sometimes, as it is free.

Ah, the ritual. There's nothing like it to signal my brain it's time to get to work.

First, I block out all the distractions. I turn off the TV, the ringer on my phone, and the Internet connection to my computer. Then, I lay in supplies. A nice glass of flavored water, a little diet Pepsi for stimulation (no coffee or tea), and a small snack are usually enough. For final preparations, I make sure all the doors are locked and my bladder is empty.

After that, I am primed and ready to let the words flow right out!

Two teaspoons of freshly-ground coffee from Kauai in a French press and noise-blocking headphones is all I need.

Dark chocolate helps, too.

Tea for writing, coffee for reading, and music for making sure no one confuses headphones for an incentive to start a conversation with me with I'm reading. I don't do it to be rude, to me it takes away from the story to be pulled out of the zone with unrelated stuff.

Coffee! I do my best writing at the coffee shop with my laptop and a full mug.

If I had to pick one of the two, I would pick flavored coffee. However - my choice - in all cases - is diet Coke.

Coffee, I've been addicted since I was about 11. I'm a big fan of the medium roast by Foldgers, I can drink it black or with some French Vanilla coffee creamer - that stuff is amazing!

That sounds absolutely amazing. Is that one of the Dunkin Donuts flavors?

Walmart sells it. Smells (and tastes) just like a chocolate glazed doughnut. I'm hooked! :D

I would love to be a tea person, I really would. I am British after all.To sip elegantly on a dainty little cup while curled up by the fireplace with a perfectly messy hair bun and over sized sweater would be perfect for an Instagram shot or to make me feel "artsy." However, I am more likely to be tripping around in torn up jeans, a purse full of clumsily heavy books and a giant cup of coffee in the attempt to stay wired enough to complete my hectic day. I think a cup of tea may just be too much serenity for my chaotic spirit to handle.

Ha, you sound like me (minus the British part).

As for my caffeine fix, I actually have a cappuccino machine. My flavor of choice is a tablespoon of coconut and a lot of homemade chocolate syrup. I used to buy this drink mix called Spark with tons of B vitamins and a little caffeine and drink that instead. Since I ran out it's all cappuccinos and the occasional brownie frappuccino though.
