Although...I have read a book after I had seen a movie, not knowing it was a book first!

I always read the book first and then see the movie. Most of the time I am disappointed in the movie :D

I think a book should be read first. You get to use your own imagination when you read a book.

I have to be honest... if I know there is a movie coming out that was based on a great book (that somehow I haven't had time to read yet) I will watch the movie first so I can review it as impartially as possible. THEN I'll go back and read the book to see what all was left out of the movie. If I read the book first and really like it then I generally end up being vastly disappointed in the movie so now I watch the movie first.

I've always prefer to read the book first. It makes the movie more understandable

If I haven't read the book before the movie comes out then I will see the movie first then compare the book to the movie when I read it.

I always try to read the book first. Unless I don't know one exists. Then I always feel compelled to read it after the movie

I always read the book first! I think watching the movie first does not allow any room for imagination. Furthermore, I think relationships with characters occur more often through books and not movies. I think you have a better connection to the movie when you have met the character through a book first. There are also some movies where the small details in the book helped to know what was going on in the movie. If you only watched the movie, I don't think you would really have any idea and would eventually figure it out, but I think it is always helpful to have as much detail as you can.

I prefer to read the book first. It can add to the movie experience when you know more details than the movie can give. When the movie does come out, I always like to see their version of what the characters look like, act like, etc. Although there are a few exceptions, I feel that most of the time, the books are better than the movie.
Never judge a book by its movie

General rule: book first. Of course, there are exceptions. Like Game of Thrones for example. I first saw the first season then got interested in reading the book, just to end up annoying my bf that he has to wait for me to read the book before watching any other season :) Oh well... life with a book worm :D

book before movie all the way. it is hard to even think about them being two separate works of art when you keep comparing them because they have the same title. but a lot of book have been ruined by the movies

I actually think I like watching the movie first. I hate being disappointing in a movie because it doesn't stick to the book, but if you watch the movie first then you can just enjoy the director's view of the book. Then you can read the book and get your own view of it later. I did this with Harry Potter the fifth book. While I read all of the other ones first I skipped on to see if the movie was better and it was. The hard part is waiting to read it till after the movie comes out.
