VELVEETA Shortage, Are ya Gunna Miss It ?

Nope.............however it does have it's use as a DOOR STOP, or more seriously as part of my " survival " foods cupboard...

along w/the canned goods, bottled water, nuts seeds, dried fruit, etc..........

despite it's " candle-wax " texture i would imagine that in a " Dooms Day " type scenario one might imagine that it's the " real " thang....

One day my grandson asked me to make him Mac n' cheese...........

Imagine my dismay when he wouldn't touch it telling me: " it's the wrong color, mommy doesn't make it this way "

After hysterical laughter ( cause i knew where this was going ) i explained to him that i don't have " that box ", but i made it for him from scratch w/3 different kinds of cheese..........unfortunately they were all WHITE....

There ya go!...you're smarter than me...cause i don't /can't throw out food... i was stuck eating the whole darn thing myself....don't get me wrong i was in HEAVEN, ....dee-lish but not exactly in my " calorie allotment " for a day..............more like A WEEK!

Remember those blocks of govt. cheese they used to give out? It was kind of like Velveeta but a million times better.

Oh boy. It was all over Wal-mart today. Velvetta is kind of my dirty secret. I love good cheese. I love Brie and Muenster and Gouda and Camembert. I'm a snob about it. But sometimes, I just want a chuck of delicious, plasticy chuck that is Velveeta. It'll probably be a good thing if it goes away. Not nearly as devastating as losing Hostess was.

I have a really strange system of when I allow myself to eat certain cheeses. Like, American Cheese and Velveeta are both so processed that one can barely call them cheese. But I love American on Grilled Cheese Sandwiches and melted on top of rice cakes. And I love Velveeta in dips and sometimes in Macaroni and Cheese. When I was little, my mom used to cook with it and she'd cut me and my brother off little slices to eat while we watched her, so I think it's more about the positive association of the taste, than it is about Velveeta itself.

Absolutely! i call them " food tapes "...we all have them..no matter how " grotesque " the said food item may be...
if it's from your childhood you're gunna love it....

After so many years i still put KETCHUP on steak...( i was raised that way ) everytime my husband saw this he cringed and said : " how to ruin a good steak "...

I'd remind him of his predilection for pork sausage w/strawberry jam, w/the eggs on the same plate....uuugh, but then he reminded me of ham w/pineapple, turkey w/cranberry, duck w/orange, etc....so, he got me there...

not to mention a " Jelly /Jam Omelette "....

I don't even think I tried velveeta until I was way into my 20's..I don't even think my mom knew it existed, much less use it. And Suzy, I'm sorry, but you are ruining a steak that way!! But then again, this is coming from someone who dips their fries in ketchup and mayo lol

This is tangentially related...kind of, but my all time favorite thing is fries with garlic mayonnaise and melted cheese on top. It's something I got all the time in Ireland and I just can't seem to replicate it here in the States. It is like a little portable heart attack of delightfulness.
