Always the book first if I can! When I see a movie and find out there was a book first, it stinks. Of course I read the book, I can't help it, but I find that the characters and the settings I imagine are all tainted by the movie.

I would much rather read the book first because I get to decide how the people look and sound. I can imagine the clothes they wear, the sights and sounds and it is like having a custom made movie in my head. For that reason I sometime feel a sense of loss when I finish a particularly absorbing novel. Its like I'm not allowed to live in that reality anymore and I miss the characters and their world. :(

I always need to watch the movie first, if I haven't already read the book. I get rabidly fanatical about how I think that "my" movies should be done, and there is a lot of emotion involved. My mom refuses to go see a movie with me if I have already read the book, because I complain constantly about missing plot lines and bad casting and arbitrary changes made for the sake of ratings. If I see the movie first, then I enjoy it and it makes the book that much better than the film.

I will nearly always read the book first, because I think it helps me understand the movie better, and I like being able to create the world in my mind first. In some cases, it's made the movie less enjoyable, unfortunately, but if I can, I'll still read the book first.

Book first. Only exception are thrillers...then I only watch the movie.
Bloopers in my spelling or grammar?? A PM will be greatly appreciated... I do (almost) anything to improve my English!

I often try to read the book before I watch the movie. Sometimes if I'm excited for a movie I read the book afterwards.

Definitely read the book first. The movie usually only makes sense if you already know the story. Plus, it's fun to find all of the places where the movie isn't like the book. The only time that I watch a movie before reading the book is if I didn't know about the book before I saw the movie.

"Book First....ALWAYS book first" and Definitely read the book first"

I can only assume and feel bad that neither of you saw "The Wizard of Oz" as children.

"The movie usually only makes sense if you already know the story"

So you fail to comprehend or in fact do not watch original screenplay movies?

To me availability matters the most. If I am unable to read a certain book but manage to get it's cinematic version I will watch the movie first. But if I get the book first and then the movie I will at first read the book and wouldn't feel at ease without completely reading the book.

I like to read the book first, then the movie. Maybe that's why I think the books are always better then the movie :?:

I have to read the book first. It's so much more rewarding. Plus I love being the chance to imagine all the scenes and characters in my head before a movie warps my perception of them. Without the ability to create your own world, the wonder of books is a little lost in my opinion.

I prefer to read the book first. The majority of the time the book has more depth and provokes thought. I'm usually disappointed if I read the book after I see the movie; as I see all of the rich descriptive detail that was cut that would've "made" the movie really stand out.
