Review of The Race Girl
Alex Moretti, a driver on his father's racing team, was involved in a car accident. His passenger, Amanda, is the sixteen-year-old daughter of Byron Cook, the CEO of Unibank. Unibank happens to be a sponsor for the Moretti racing team. Byron is horrified to learn that Amanda had been pregnant before the accident and is determined to prosecute Alex to the full extent of the law. Alex must admit to the extent of his relationship with Amanda as the truth unfolds. What will happen to the Moretti racing team? Will Alex's relationship with Amanda be destroyed because of the accident? All these answers, and more, lie within the pages of The Race Girl by James Herbert Harrison.
This book dives into the heart-pounding world of car racing. As Alex tells the story of his relationship with Amanda, details of his life, including his work, are revealed. I knew little about the sport before reading this book, and I can confidently say that Harrison explained everything expertly without overwhelming me with little details. Though I usually am not passionate about sports, I found myself enthralled in the races, which was a pleasant surprise.
Another standout of the book was the characters and their interactions. Seeing how Alex and Amanda's relationship developed throughout the book was fascinating. They met after Alex ditched Amanda's older sister at a party, and he found that the two, though physically similar, had almost opposite personalities. Their simple flirting blossomed into a loving relationship. After the accident, Amanda was as determined that Alex be absolved of any potential wrongdoing as her father was that he go straight to jail. The court case also turned into a cutthroat struggle between the two families due to their business relationship.
I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. I am taking off one star due to the number of errors being greater than ten; the book could use an additional round of proofreading. The plot, pacing, and characters were all excellent and made it a joy to read. Other than the editing, there was nothing that I disliked about the book. This book is perfect for romance fans who also enjoy a bit of action and motorsports. The book does contain some strong language, but I believe that it is suitable for teens and adults.

Laney, as I've said before, I'm not much of a romance reader. Nevertheless, this book might be more palatable for me with the inclusion of racing and legal drama! If I am going to read something with an element of romance, the forbidden relationship is a good one! I'm not thrilled about your mention of errors; perhaps the author could do that additional round of editing to convince me! As always, I enjoyed reading your review! Until next time...Laney K wrote: ↑28 Dec 2023, 19:36 [Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "The Race Girl" by James Herbert Harrison.]
