Do you get easily distracted when you read?

It all depends on what I am reading. There are some books that I can't put down and before I know it I am done with the book, but if it isn't something that holds my attention very well then everything distracts me.

Sometimes I do. It usually only happens if I'm not into the book enough, or I need to stop my dog from getting in to something.

Depends of a whole list of factors. Is the book interesting? Am I tired? Do I have a lot on my mind? Lately, I have been reading without really getting distracted, but I truly enjoy the books I am reading. I advise that if you are easily distracted from reading a book, you should take a step back and figure out why instead of trying to push through with the book. There is a reason to every distraction and it probably needs to be addressed in some way!

Usually when I read I get really into the book which scares me sometimes because I'll be reading on transit and almost miss my stop, or just not being aware and my surroundings.

At times, yes. It depends on where I am reading. If I surround myself with few things that can distract me I'm usually okay.

I find that the ease of distraction (or lack thereof) indicates the quality of the book - the better it is, the more engrossed I am and the harder it is for me to be distracted. If it's easy to get my attention, then the book isn't that gripping.

Only if it is school related and I don't really want to be reading. If it is a good book I can read almost anywhere. I used to read during lunch in high school, or at family reunions, or at a basketball game if it was a really goodbook.

If I'm at the beginning of a book I get really easily distracted. Once I'm into the plot, though, nothing can tear me away

I'm easily distracted with everything I do if I'm not in a quiet environment. I'm practicing meditation to help me with my focus and concentration. I think it's working...

That seems to be when I get the most distracted as well. I have to read a lot in the evenings with the tv on, because that's my husband's version of "hanging out", and usually I can handle that, but if I'm just starting a new book I sometimes have to escape to another room. There are also the occasional times when my mind is just too many places at once too, but nothing can help in those cases.

When I'm starting a new book, yes. But if I get into the book, or if it's part of a series I enjoy, then I can read in almost any environment.

Only when the descriptions in the book have distracted me, like they're so vivid that I start to daydream about them, or if they're weird or complex enough images.
