Book first or movie first?

I would always say book first, because (pun unintended) you will get a fuller picture.

However, I did watch the Game of Thrones's first season before reading the books, and did find it to be an interesting (if not as novel -sorry about all these puns!) experience.

What i would do is read a book first,,,as most of the times movies are far away from the original books,,and thats why its always said original is best.

I usually like to read the book first, however with Game of Thrones I am very glad that I watched the first season of the show because it really helps me to keep the characters straight.

I would prefer to read a book before watching the video, what I have realized is that after watching a video based on a book makes it difficult to read a book at a later date

I would prefer to read the book first. You understand the movie better. I don't want to read a book after I have seen the movie as I already know the ending and that spoils the book for me.

I usually veer on the side of book first, movie afterwards. As a kid I ended up seeing the first four or five Harry Potter movies before I read the books, and while the HP movies are in my opinion done very well, a movie will almost always have variations or omissions from the book it was based on. It's understandable in most cases when movies are generally condensed to no more than a few hours, but watching a movie first can sometimes skewer your expectations and "mental movie" while reading the book it was based on. Sometimes it's not a big deal and only minor differences are noted; other times, you wonder why the book was even adapted into a movie at all with all of the major plot and character differences that take place.

I guess it depends on how much I think I will like the story, and if I think I will like it enough I'll read the book first.

I have always found that if I read the book first and have the story in my mind, then see the movie, I am always disappointed, thinking that it could have been better. However, if I see the movie first and then read the book it usually puts more flesh on the bones of the story.

I always read the book first. The movie very rarely ever amounts up to the books, if at all. However, if I am watching a good movie and see that it is based off of a book, I think to myself "I'm going to have to read that book!"

I always read the book the first...If it's a book I absolutely loved I'll sometimes avoid watching the movie altogether. There are so many details to the story that my imagination fills in that when I see the stories translated into movies it's often almost painful to see different interpretations...but occasionally I'm open to it.

I usually try to read the book first then watch the movie, but with some of the older movies I watch the movie first. It just depends on which I learn about first.

I always read the book first. To be completely honest I tend to read book series and then years later they get turned into movies like The Mortal Instruments (read in 2007) Twilight (read in 2005) Vampire Academy and Vampire Diaries (both read in 2007) and The Fault In Our Stars (read in 2012) I just love to find series and read them as soon as they hit the shelves!
