How do you choose a book to read?

First, I pick the one that catches my eye, be it the cover or the title. Then I will read the blurb; if I like it, then I will proceed.

Unfortunately, I choose by whatever onlinebookclub is paying the most for with the fewest number of pages. That typically ends up being a self help book. So, emotionally, I am doing great. Financially, not so much.

I usually try and pick something that is entirely different from the genre that I just read to prevent burnout. Another way is reading the first page and then the 99th page. I heard somewhere that going to the 99th page will give you a better understanding of the writing style and density of the book and give you a better feel on if you would like it or not.

I grab a couple books I think I might be interested in and read the first chapter of each. Whichever one grabs me is the one I read. I am most definitely a mood reader.

I typically have an endless TBR to choose from, so from there I go based on my mood or what was recently recommended to me. Occasionally, if I’m feeling adventurous, I’ll go to the library and browse, often judging books by their covers and choosing the most interesting looking, but that’s a rare occurence when I know I have over 300 books on my TBR!

For most of the time I want the cover book to call my name. Your typical crime ,thriller and mystery book with black or dark background with red bold letters resembling blood and stuff. I hope its not weird

I read various books at the time, so I used different methodes for my complementary readings. While I choose my main reading based on my current mood or synopsis, I choose my secondary reading based on a random roulette to make things more interesting. Some of the options I have are completing a reading challenge, the typical alphabet challenge, a random number from my TBR or a book I have on my computer or in my bookshelf. I find it fun if I do it that way and enjoyable to do when I have a read that I'm not quite enjoying.

I am currently not able to choose between few different books, even from different genres, so I am reading them all at once. ne for personal growth, when kids are asleep, one fantasy for me, when I am breastfeeding my youngest and one for work, when I am in the playground with them. It works well enough.

Title and cover makes the first impression for me. Striking titles are very attractive, same with very creative book covers. Sometimes the book cover art just wanna make me buy the book for keeping sake.
However, what really makes me buy the book is the content. So the synopsis or book descriptions is important for me. However, these things doesn't totally capture the book. So I'm still bound to make poor judgements especially in the case of underrating books without a captivating content description.
