First thing I do when it pick up a book is smell it. That smell is worth the weird looks in bookshops

two of my favorite smells are barnes and noble and the library, so I don't know about 'new' book smells

I agree with N_Simpson21, there is a certain excitement to a new book smell, whereas an older book's pages might evoke comfort and familiarity.

Side note kind of a thing here to continue with the book smells, I borrowed a book to my girlfriend and she gave it back recently. While reading it, I noticed that the pages faintly smell like her perfume. This made me think that maybe you can connect books to people in this way or connect books to say houses since they smell the same way..... I dunno

I love the smell of books--old and new. I used to lay my head on my textbooks during school just to smell the books. Of course I pretended to sleep so that I didn't look like a book nerd. I like the smell of old books, although if they aren't properly cared for they tend to smell like dust. I also love the smell of coffee and books. Does anyone else go on dates to bookstores?

I have to agree with you new books bring nothing to the table as far as a smell goes. But I love library books, I love the smell how easily the pages turn everything even the yellow tinge of the pages. An old book has a perfect smell.

Lately I've started going to bookstores with my girlfriend

sometimes we'll buy each other coffee or a book or just stroll around looking. It's a nice pastime

I love the smell of new books, too. When I was pregnant I was very sensitive to smells. I would buy new books and flip the pages and sniff at the same time. I loved that smell, but unfortunately I can't smell it as well as I did while I was pregnant anymore.

Ah! The wonderful smell of new books!
I do love the smell of new books, but the "smell" is not just about the stimulation of the olfactory nerves. It is about the possibilities. Not every new book carries that type of "new book" smell. I only feel the way I do about the new book smell when it comes to textbooks at the beginning of the school year or college semester. However, that smell enriched with possibilities does tend to fade away rather quickly once the reality of the hefty price sticker penetrates.

Old books defiantly smell better. I think the fascination with new books is not so much the smell, but when the spine of a new book cracks is where the appeal came from.
