What do you do if a book isn't interesting?

I have a really hard time reading the book if it isn't interesting. I will try to read to page 20 or 25 and if it still isn't interest, I put it down and move on. If I don't do this then I end up getting very irritated at the book. Nobody wants to be irritated!

I will set the book aside and then try again later. My tastes in books are liable to change on a day to day basis. There have been books that I set aside, and when I finished reading them I wondered why I didn't like them the first time.

That's exactly what I do. Sometimes when my mood has changed I'm ready to read it and glad I did. Other times there is nothing to be done. It depends. If I'm really put off by something, it's usually still hard to read, even after I've set it aside for a while. If I just think it's boring, sometimes I can get back into it.

If I don't find a book interesting in the beginning, then I stop reading it. I can't stand reading a book which is boring in the beginning itself.

Simple. I put it down and try to find another one that'll grab my attention.

I still try to read it since I now have it. I find alot of times that if I can manage to work my way through a certain amount of chapters, then I get interested enough to find out what happens at the end, although there's times that its taken me past the halfway point to get there.

Honestly I try to trudge through it. It kills me if I cant get through a book. I have only not finished one book in my whole life. It was written well I just couldn't handle it. In the book a little girl was being raped by her father and that was the end of the book for me. I couldn't get any further I tried for another chapter and gave up. Other books that I havent found interesting I have continued to read on and eventually I would get into it and like the book.

Well I was always told that a good rule of thumb when deciding whether to read a book or not was to start reading the first chapter. If you are not interested in the book by at least the end of the 3rd page, there may be little hope that you will actually like the whole book. That being said, sometimes books do not get interesting until the 3rd chapter so reading on my be more of an advantage. But at that point the books should interest you and if it does not, then its time to give up on that book.

I'll give up on it - there are too many other books waiting to be read! The exception is books being read for discussion - those I feel an obligation to finish, or at least skim through so that I can contribute to the conversation. If I've put a book aside and then it comes my way again at a later point, I'll give it another try in case it was my mood/viewpoint that affected my opinion the first time around.

I forge through the book. You never know when it might suddenly get interesting. It just might take me a little longer than it normally would.

I thought I could read almost any book. If I did not find it interesting, I would put it aside and try again later. I found a short one (42 pages) that I could absolutely not finish.

I usually do my absolute best to get through a book, and there have been very few times that I have not been able to finish one. I generally find that I learn something new or find something interesting in it. Probably the only books that I have not finished were ones with ideas or opinions that I found abhorrent. Even then, I've gritted my teeth and tried, but I've had to sit several back on the shelf, and even tossed one or two in the trash.
