I don’t think tha this is the book for me. Even though I am interested in the interactions among the key players and their ethnicities here, I am not interested in hockey at all. There must have been some other way to connect the cultures. Thanks!

I don't think this book is up my alley, but it's got an interesting mix of topics and it seems to be a must-read for anyone who wants to know more about Canada and Canadian culture. I especially don't know enough about the Church there and how it operates - that might be worth looking into, at least, as your review hints at something going on beneath the surface. Thanks for writing this!

I agree that the book effectively focuses on the cultures and histories of Canadians and Americans. I appreciate that it offers a fresh perspective on Hockney, and I'm excited to delve into it. It's an interesting read, and I also want to learn more about Canada's history. If you're intrigued by historical fiction with a strong sense of place and well-drawn characters, "The Icy Cross" might be a great addition to your reading list.

This seems like a wonderful book to read, based on the review. I'm not sure about the hockey part, as some readers may not be that interested in sports; but I believe it adds to the story and may change one's outlook in sports, at least hockey.

"The Icy Cross" by Peter Bisaillion describes the spread of colonialism in North America and the United States. It also narrates religion which was a key part of European colonial programs and the spread of British influence in Canada. It is is historical fiction story that delves into the socio-political cultures of the Americas. Nice review.

Sports such as Hockey was a key part of European colonization models. Oftentimes they used it as a unifying system especially when there is serious clash of cultures. Beautiful piece.
