It was when I was young. I couldn't put the science fiction book down in my grandparents' where everybody was gathered. Finally my mother told me to stop the book because everyone was seeing me as weird. After that moment I started began reading privately.

Yeah, and it's sad. I used to be super self-conscious and I wanted to be "like everybody else", so I pretended to hate books, to the point where I actually lied to an interviewer about not reading a lot (oh, I regret that so much). Thankfully I've grown out of it, but it definitely affected my reading so there's some catching up I need to do. In the end, anything can and will be called weird by anyone. Best thing to do for yourself is to just let those people be, and enjoy your books.

I was never called weird bcz of reading novels. In fact I had a huge group of friends around me who admired my work and liked to follow what I do. Mostly in school, classmates and even teachers would sometimes come to me for a book recommendation. Although I started reading just a few years ago, I happened to put a positive impact on others. Never being seen as a weirdo or anything like that.

Lol, many times! Whenever I get money my first thought unconsciously goes 'Let us buy some books!' I truly don't feel any guilt paying for them and then I'm called weird for reading too much and reading every time. Mostly I like to read alone in my room, not in crowded places, but sometimes when the bar of patience goes too high and there is much interaction and my battery is draining, I pick up my phone and start reading. On a smartphone, they never know what are you even doing, scrolling, working, or talking to someone haha!

But being called weird for reading too much is a big achievement for me, and it must be, for every bookworm!..

it's important to stay true to yourself and not let others' opinions discourage you from pursuing what you love. Reading is a valuable and enriching activity that offers a world of exploration and growth.

As an adult I have not personally witnessed this type of reaction to being a book lover. When I was growing up, I think being a "bookworm" was not a favorable activity and yes someone who loved books would probably get picked on. Although I knew people who were fairly popular growing up and they loved reading. I myself was not a reader, but my sister was so I tried to not pick on those who enjoyed the activity. Now, I absolutely love reading. I have an entire library of books in my office and I have yet to witness myself or any of my adult friends who enjoy reading being picked on for that reason.

I have been called weird, strange, different, unique, odd, special... It seems like they've named me with every synonym of weird. Just because I love to read books and relate my life with fictional characters.

Oh my.. that’s really sad to hear. I have never been called weird for my love for books. Instead, people always would ask me how I would read so many books? How is it even possible? They would even ask me how it is possible to read books apart from textbooks? They say, “Textbooks already saturate our heads. We don’t feel like reading more.”

I have been called weird for reading specific genre of books. Now that I think about it reading fanfics also seems a little strange to me, but all have different taste.

This was more common when I was in school. Nowadays, it doesn’t happen as much. Keep reading and don’t worry about what other people are saying. I think they’re weird!

Some people have found it weird that I prefer to read over going clubbing and getting drunk. It is definitely upsetting when people say things like that and call you weird for wanting to read a good book rather than a night out. I have learnt to deal with it though and don’t take those people seriously anymore. It was difficult as a kid though
