What an amazing book! I love reading history, like history in China and this book "The Shanghai Circle" is very intriguing, the ruthlessness and cruelness of the character and the struggles for power. Those survival for women and the competition for men that dominated in that era are likely goosebumps. The attention needed for each character explain deeply and the plots are amazing, I love it.

It is interesting to know how the lives of Joseph, Divina and Irina will change as they cross paths amidst the dangerous world of triads. I like suspenseful stories so this one is right up my alley.

The Shanghai Circle is a book that discusses the fast life, which involves dealing with drugs, making out with prostitutes, and other wild acts. There are also the characters of Davina and Irina fighting to find a voice in the male-dominated planet.

The Shanghai Circle by Tony Henderson has all the makings of a masterpiece - historical depth, complex characters and a gripping narrative set in 1930s Shanghai. Can't wait to dive in!

Thank you for your informational review. I'm glad you liked the book. I'm more prone to read books that have fewer characters and stick to the same characters all the way through. Sometimes it's the timeline or the location that doesn't draw me in. I'm sure those who enjoy this time period in a historical story will enjoy this book.

I enjoy historical fiction books immensely, as a person learn so much from the past. This narrative sounds intriguing and full of action and suspense. I'm curious to find out if Davina and Irina survive this male-domninated world. Thanks for an interesting review. Congrats on BOTD and thanks for the free book.

I like historical fiction, especially ones set in Asia. The first chapter was bloody and gory and gave me a taste of what to expect.

Triads in Shanghai in 1936 were running clubs, drug trade, and prostitution. Child labour is a problem. The main mode of transport is through treacherous waters. The Japanese have invaded Shanghai. What will happen to the inhabitants of Shanghai? This is a wonderful book in the historical fiction genre.

The contrast between traditional practices and the modern conveniences we now enjoy really stands out in this passage. The mention of child labor, foot binding, and the harsh realities of the triad culture not only highlights the brutal aspects of life during that time but also underscores how far society has evolved in terms of human rights and technological advancements. Nice review.

The traditional and historical setting of this novel sounds promising all though I'm not a big fan of war and tragedy, your review and rating makes me want to read this book. Thank you for a detailed review.

In 1936, in China, it must have been doubly hard for Davina to function independently as a woman in the business world. However, I see a determined young woman who will work to overcome all odds to succeed. I look forward to discovering what happened between the Triads and the Guests. Thanks for an insightful review.

Great review. It will be interesting to read about Shanghai and how all it's traditions were before the world evolved to technology.
