I like quiet when I read. If I'm absorbed in a story my mind doesn't even register the music anyway so I don't see the need to have background noise.
A glass of vino doesn't go amiss though.

I need to be in complete silence to read.

No, never. I can't really concentrate on the book. I like it quiet when I read.

I do sometimes, for atmosphere, but it has to be subtle, like subdued instrumentals.

Not only do I have to have music playing, but I absolutely hate silence. I've got way too much energy to tolerate silence. I even fall asleep to music.

But I digress.

I love to read for an hour before bed and play Christmas music, jazz manouche, flamenco, or classical music. It's very relaxing.

Yes, classical music only. Any other music is too distracting.

I prefer listening to jazz. Honestly I can read with my children running around.

I generally listen to classical while reading but, sometimes depending on the book, it changes.

I like to have my music turned town really low while I read. Sometimes after reading a book and I listened to a song with it then whenever I hear that song again I'm reminded of that book.

Silence is best for me, as I don't like to have any distractions when I read. I'm used to so many distractions at work, when at home and trying to relax with a good book, distraction-free is the way to go for me.

I have a varrying taste in music! I need something that isnt very lyricly focused... Otherwise I end up focusing on those words instead of what I'm reading.

I tend to read while either music or the television is playing. It's hard to find time to read in silence with a house full of other people.

I suffer from misophonia, so if I am doing anything that involves another person (i.e. eating together, generally spending time in proximity), I need the distraction of music to keep me off the ledge. Coping mechanisms work.

However, if I am reading, I concentrate all my feeble brainpower into that. I am happiest when there is not a sound around me when I am knee deep in a good book. I invested in sound-cancelling earphones a couple of years ago. Best purchase I have ever made in my life.
