Review of A Dangerous Liberty
There was absolutely nothing not to love about A Dangerous Liberty. Mary Sheeran built a story full of mystery, suspense, and love. All set within the backdrop of post-Civil War America. Elisabeth Winters is a decorated artist who composed music and plays the classics all over Europe and Asia. The one place she avoids is her home country, the United States, but circumstances thrust her back into the political game that got her father killed and might just take her life next. While trying to learn to trust, she realizes that she might be unable to trust anyone and pushes away even those on her side.
Elisabeth confronts her past to find her future by cutting off those who were never on her side. She wants to regain her independence and the voice of the future that she inherited from her father. She rekindles with someone who had always had her back, even if she didn’t know it. This story is about right and wrong, justice and heartbreak.
Will Elizabeth navigate the political and social life surrounding her fame? Or will she fall into the same misgivings that took her father from her almost a decade ago? Will she learn to forgive herself, grieve, and love again, or will she run back to Europe, leaving everything behind once and for all?
I recommend this book to anyone who likes suspense and the struggle of a post-Civil War era where freedom, although won, was still not given. The historical elements of this book were really well done. There were no errors in my read-through, and I couldn’t find one thing that I didn’t like about A Dangerous Liberty. I give this read five out of five stars for all these reasons stated above. I look forward to the next book Mary Sheeran puts out.
