Insofar as the word 'should' even has meaning, then we must say that the past is exactly as it should be, everything that happened should have happened, and everything that should happen will happen

Besides the obvious themes of resilience and compassion, I think the author was also addressing the repercussions of child neglect. Even though the setting of this tale is in South Africa, I see similar situations in the USA as well. Our over-worked social workers cannot keep up with all the children who are being neglected by their parents.

The themes that stood out for me is the lack of resources and care for neglected, orphaned, and unwanted children. It also made me think about the huge impact the AIDS epidemic has on families in Africa.

I feel the biggest theme was "overcoming adversity" throughout the book. The orphans did just that and in unique ways as well

The theme of compassion stood out to me the most. But I love seeing how resilient they were.

The book sheds light on the harsh realities of social injustice faced by orphans in Southern Africa, particularly those affected by HIV/AIDS. This theme underscores the urgent need to address social inequalities and combat prejudice.

For me, the book stood out for its unity among the children's and their handwork when given an opportunity and the reality of what orphans go through without anybody to support them and the inequality they face in our society.

My favorite theme the author touched on was teamwork. It was so fun watching how each kid used their strengths to get things done. They overcame so much by relying on each other.

This story highlights a common fact, young kids are the most vulnerable and adversely impacted ones. (in this case by HIV/AIDS) The wars around the world that appear like they are never going to end are also impacting young kids the most.

The positive aspect that stood out for me is the fact that the abused group was resilient, did not give up, and maintained a positive approach toward all the challenges in the form of persons or situations they faced.

Themes that jump out at me from this book are: life isn't fair, necessity is the mother of invention, and that great minds think alike while fools seldom differ. These kids learned early in their lives that life wasn't fair. In order to survive they had to be inventive and resourceful. These kids had great minds while the ruling adults were fools.

The themes that stood out for me include Social Injustice and Child Neglect, where the narrative sheds light on the neglect and unfair treatment of orphans, emphasizing the need for societal change and better support systems. Another significant theme is the Impact of HIV/AIDS, which addresses the devastating effects of the epidemic on families and communities, with a particular focus on the plight of orphaned children.

Teamwork is one of the themes that stood out in this book. I realized that orphans always worked in pairs, making them more creative, effective, and efficient. They also solidified their friendship by working together, identifying each other's strengths and weaknesses.

The themes that stood out are survival, the struggle for education, and how society judges those who seem different or less capable.
