Which do you prefer Books or Social media

Post by Elizabeth-Tush4Christ »

Ideally, I read leisurely for four days a week, unless I have a deadline. I mainly read because it's a fun way to learn, and I'm not very accustomed to social media although I have a lot of it on my phone I only visit one often which is my favorite App. I can be on my phone all day without opening other social media apps. So, technically, I'm on my phone but not on social media, which can be hard to explain, especially since I'm often on my phone. Am I alone share your thoughts.

I would always prefer to read. Of course, I prefer to read than watch TV also. Reading for me is an escape, a way to enter another realm where the problems of the world drift away for a while.

I am not that much of social media person rather then that I like reading books because it takes me a way from this world into another world that is full of fantasy mythic creatures and epic adventures and tales well social media is the complete opposite and remind me of all that is going on in the world right now which is not something great and it has all these politics in world which I don't like really much and I really rather read book then socialise.

I use social media to stay up to date on my friends and family, but the amount of advertisements, suggested posts, and heated discourse on social media platforms can become rather annoying. In my free time, love reading books and escaping into different worlds. However, social media has its time and place.

Social media is honestly pretty bad these days. The content is typically shallow, and the comments are driven by algorithms that highlight extreme views.
I am an avid reader. I typically read 1-2 books per week. I enjoy a wide array of genres including Sci Fi, Action/Thriller, and Historical Fiction.

As a geologist and christian, I also particularly enjoy books on science and faith.

I prefer reading though I'm a pretty slow reader. Social media takes up a lot of my time, though.

Being what some may consider anti-social, I prefer reading to social media. Generally speaking, I'm either playing Texas Hold 'Em, gaming (PC or PS4, which I'm burnt out on), or reading.

Social media falls into two categories for me. I'm either bored to death or significantly irritated by it. The only reason I even have a Facebook, mostly, is for photos (the internet has unlimited storage space, vs a limited 500 GB flash drive or hard drive, hence, when storing family photos and videos, I find uploading them to Facebook albums frees them up off my desktop), or being able to contact people that I otherwise don't have the phone numbers for (and I generally don't call people anyways, messages tend to be more "respond at my leisure".

Asking this question on a book forum, that'll definitely skew the votes haha I vote books, too!

Now I'm thinking, though. Even if this was asked to a non-reader, would they still say social media? Maybe this is just me, but I feel like I've never encountered anyone who actually enjoyed social media, not even the ones who use it all the time. That's like saying you enjoy your school's free-for-all bulletin board. People enjoy interacting with each other, social media is just the means, and it's usually an annoying mean.

Reading for sure. I am on social media for my fair share, but it is so fake. People posting about how great their lives are. But are they really? How many of those people are not happy, but post about how great their lives are just to make others think they have a perfect life? I would much rather read and learn new things than to see that or see people whining about how much life sucks. And I also do not need every detail of what you did today. I don't care how many loads of laundry you did, that your dishwasher leaked all over, the plumber fixed your toilet, and that you still had time to bake a cake.

The horrible feeling of wasting time of social media is not a good one to have. With social media it's just mindless scrolling. While with reading you feel like you are spending time doing something useful

I would prefer reading a book because it's a way to escape my reality. Stories help me relax. It's like taking a mini vacation for the mind. :)
