I just finished read a book by Kimberly McCreight, Reconstructing Amelia. This was my first time reading a book by this author and being a mother of three girls I found this book very insightful. I didn't like all the bad language the book had; but I do find it necessary to educate the parents today about the dangers of cell phones and Facebook etc. for their kids because it is so easy to be bullied using these devices. My girls don't have these things yet thank goodness but I know when they get older they will (maybe when they are in college) It also proves how important it is to communicate with your kids and keep plugged in with them and to know how to keep them safe. I thought it was a really great read sad but great.

Tells the true story of a woman from Sierra Leone whose hands were brutally chopped off and her family killed in a civil war. An absolute must-read, would have some great discussion!

I think Frozen Solid by James Tabor might get some good discussion. It plays with the ideas of genetic manipulation, murder, and intrigue.
