The Chronos Paradox by Randolph Fenton is a quick dive into the dark, lonely, and terrifying world of a seemingly brilliant scientist, Elias Harper, as he battles with remorse and despair over the potential loss of his loved ones and mysterious phenomena unleashed by his mechanical creation, the CronoScope, a time-control machine. As days go by, it becomes increasingly clear that Elias has plunged into a psychotic state as the lines between reality and imagination become blurrier with each interaction with the machine. Doubt overwhelms Elias’s mind, making him question his pursuits and unusual experimentation with the ChronoScope. If only Elias could save Clara. But who is Clara to him? What otherworldly phenomena does Elias wrestle with, and what philosophical lessons can we learn from this? Find out more in this fast-paced, thrilling, and pithy story.

This book has one main character, Elias, whose actions, thoughts, and relationships portray our shared and often obsessive need for control or self-preservation. I loved the subtle moral, ethical, and philosophical lessons embodied in Elias’s struggles. This book contains far more philosophical implications than meets the eye. I was satisfied that some of my conclusions when reading the book matched those detailed by the author in the epilogue. Although this story isn’t that long, it is dense with philosophical interpretations that can only be grasped by pausing every few pages to reflect on the implications of what you just read. I also loved the author's poetic narrative. This book’s visually appealing formatting was a breath of fresh air: It contained captivating and vivid descriptions of various scenes aided by coloured cartoonish depictions of different characters and scenes.

I rate this book five stars out of five. There is absolutely nothing I disliked about this book. It contained virtually no grammatical errors or typos, the main character was relatable, and there were many philosophical and moral interpretations buried within the pages of this book that I truly loved. Furthermore, this book has outstanding and aesthetically pleasing formatting that is memorable. This book does not contain any sexual or violent content but features a single instance of borderline profanity. I highly recommend this book to readers of all religions and lovers of science fiction and philosophy.
