One of the sad things about this book is that the sailors were betrayed by the people who should have been protecting them. It has an amazing plot and a lot to look forward to. Congratulations on the book of the day.

From the title itself the book was not so appealling to me, but the way you described the characteres and the plot made me want to read this story. The mixture of ficional characters and true facts seams very interesting.

This review provides a compelling look at Deadly Waters: The Vietnam Naval War and Its Aftermath and highlights both the emotional and historical depth of the story. It’s heartbreaking to read about how these young sailors, including Zack, sacrificed so much only to be neglected by the very system they served. The mention of Agent Orange’s lasting effects adds another tragic layer to the story, making it clear that the war's impact didn’t end when the fighting stopped. I also appreciate the review’s insight into the author's writing style—balancing the horrors of war with humor sounds like a difficult but effective approach. This book seems like an important and thought-provoking read, especially for those interested in military history and veterans' struggles.

'Back home, Zack and many of his colleagues suffer from illnesses related to the Agent Orange chemical and the Veterans Affairs department shockingly refuses them well-deserved compensation.'
Reading this part of the book was quite painful for me.

Thank you for an interesting review. Zach and his fellow shipmates faced the usual dangers of was plus unidentified dangers like exposure to Agent Orange. The friendship bonds created helped him survive this difficult time. I’m glad that a little humor is mixed in the writing on such a serious topic.

Wow! From the review, I can tell that this is a really interesting story. It is very unfortunate that the soldiers were not well compensated despite the fact that they wholeheartedly served their country.
Thanks for the engaging review!

Miller is a gifted author, indeed, and I agree with you that the characters are as real as they can be. It appears that more often than not, those who give the most, being in the protection of their countries or giving themselves to obey orders even knowing the risk they are taking, reap the least. This is definitely one such example.
Many thanks for the amazing review, @EmunahAn.

Randy Miller authors one of the finest about the War in Vietnam. A great story about Zack a young man from Vermont, who among other colleagues in the mission face negative impacts of the war including being denied their well deserved dues as war veterans. An exciting review of an interesting book

The way the reviewer describes the emotional weight of the book, from the vivid war scenes to the betrayal by the Veterans Affairs department, makes it clear that this is a deeply impactful read. I particularly appreciate how Miller blends historical accuracy with engaging storytelling, even inserting humor amidst the tragedy. It’s shocking and sad that so many veterans had to continue fighting—this time against their own government—for the justice they deserved. Thank you for such a thorough and thought-provoking review!" :techie-studyinggray: :techie-studyingbrown:

A frank and moving analysis of the harsh realities of war and its long-term consequences can be seen in Deadly Waters: The Vietnam Naval War and Its Aftermath. It portrays the struggles, sacrifices, and perseverance of those who served through powerful narrative.

The Agent Orange illnesses are absolutely horrifying. It's disgraceful how difficult it was for patients to get care when they returned home from Vietnam. This book sounds like a wildly compelling addition to the discourse on returning veterans from that era.
