Not really. I think I'd first go to amazon and read the summary and then skim through several reviews to get an idea of what it was about and whether it would be my kind of thing. Since one person's opinion can be so subjective, it's better to get a few people's take on the book.

Of course, if it was someone I knew, I'd probably take their word for it.

I'm a teenager, so I'm inclined to read YA fiction (which can be quite good), however lots of it is trashy and unappealing. So whenever someone offhandly mentions a book, I usually give it a try from a sample on the BN shop and if I like it I'll get it at the library. I've out-read our school library so I need more books whenever I can get them.

Ya. I found one of my favorite series that way. And like other people have mentioned I like to look at the reviews on Amazon before I purchase a book.

Yes. That is one of the reasons I joined this forum, to get some opinions and suggestions for new books to try. Amazon trys to recommend books you will like, so not really that different!

If one random person said the book was good, no. However, if there are several random people all praising the book, I may at least read it's dust jacket and see if it falls within something I'd enjoy reading.

Then again, I'm one of those weird people that totally judges a book by it's cover. If your book is bright purple, I'm gonna read the back of that book REGARDLESS!

Depends upon the person who is recommending the book. At times such recommendations are an epic failure. but before buying or beginning to read a recommended book it is important to read review ratings of the book and also check the book review for the same. But yes with some one recommending books we open doors to a new stream of subjects which probably we are unaware of.

I would pick it up and look at it. Read the blurb and the first page. By that time I ought to know whether or not it would interest me.

I would probably look at it and then decide if it was something I might enjoy. Not everyone has the same taste.

Of course! I'm open to reading any kind of book there is! I almost always read books that people recommend I read. Sometimes, they aren't very good so I stop reading them, but I always give them a chance.

Definitely if they gave me the storyline & it sounded interesting to me. I am forever getting recommendations which is why I'm always playing catch-up with my waiting baskets of books.

Definitely! As long as the person sounded patient about the book I would at least look up a few online reviews, read the blurb etc and then make my final decision whether to read it or not. I don't care who tells me about a book, if its a good review I will give it a go!

I will read a book recommended by someone random. As a matter of fact I have learned about so many good authors that way. If I am reading a book and a person approaches and recognizes the author then I feel pretty confident that they can recommed some good reading.
