Im seriously not a fan of crime books but I'd like to give it a try. Perhaps this is a good avenue to start. I wanna know too how this one pans out. Thanks!

Almost Mortal by Christopher Leibig offers something unique as it tells its story in two streams: the straightforward telling of the story, with Sam as the lead character, and the journal of X. How these streams converge toward a conclusion will be something to look forward to, although my expectations about this serial killer mystery have been tempered by prospero360's review. Sam reading the journal and finding similarities between his life and that of X is quite intriguing for me. It spurred wild theories in my mind. Hopefully, I hit them right.

I like reading investigative stories. Although there are some issues I think I would like to read the book. This is a good and honest review, from the analysis and the rating.

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘Almost Mortal’ by Christopher Leibig. I promised myself that I would only read a few chapters at a time, however, I found it difficult to put my Kindle down and I would carry on reading.
The story is full of suspense and this is what kept me going. All I wanted to do was to find out who the Rosslyn Ripper murderer was, and just when you think everything is alright then there a twist to the story.
‘Almost Mortal’ is worth reading if you like suspense. I loved it.

"Almost Mortal" is a crime/mystery story set in Bennet County, Virginia, centered around Sam Young, a criminal defense attorney. Sam helps investigate the Rosslyn Ripper case and protects Father Andrada. Sam discovers he shares similarities with a journal containing X's life stories. The story is divided into two stories, with a 3-star rating. Recommended for crime and mystery fans, but not for romance.

Thank you, reviewer, for summarising the book. It really does look like one of those compelling reads that are hard to put down, especially after reading the first couple of pages.

Thank you for your well-balanced review! I appreciated your insight into the dual narrative structure of Almost Mortal—your review captured the contrast between Sam’s grounded investigation and the more adventurous, reflective tone of X’s journal beautifully. Great review!

To be honest, the way the plot is organized does seem quite confusing. Maybe not disorganised but confusing. Books like that usually merge the two plots by growing them simultaneously and not one after the other.
Nice review by the way and congrats to the author on Book of The Day Nomination.

This is a thriller with two stories that are intertwined. One of the stories concerns a character indicated only as X, so I guess there's a mystery about him, or her. I see that Sam has psychic abilities, which adds another layer to the plot, making it intriguing. Thank you for your great review!

The sample pages were captivating and I kept flipping page after page. I loved learning that the story breaks out into 2 through your summary, but the lack of suspense bothers me. But it sure is worth giving a try with intriguing characters. Thank you for your interesting review.

"Almost Mortal" by Christopher Leibig is a gripping crime mystery that weaves a defense attorney’s investigation of a serial killer with a haunting journal full of secrets, spanning from Virginia to Argentina. Dual narratives, moral dilemmas, and a touch of the divine keeps you guessing. Congratulations on being BOTD!

"Almost Mortal" by T.J. McCormack is such a captivating read! It takes you on an adventure with a young protagonist who gets caught up in a world where the living and the dead are intertwined. The way McCormack paints the scenes and develops the characters really pulls you in, making it easy to lose track of time while reading.

What I found really interesting were the themes of mortality and self-discovery. The character's journey isn't just about the adventure; it's also about figuring out who they are and accepting their place in the world. The writing strikes a great balance between tense moments and lighthearted humor, which keeps things engaging.

Overall, "Almost Mortal" is definitely a book worth checking out if you enjoy fantasy mixed with some deeper life lessons. It's a great reminder to embrace life, even when things get tough. If you’re in the mood for a book that’s both entertaining and thought-provoking, you should give it a try!

I have often wondered how priests like Father Andrada felt about hearing confessions from criminals. Thank you for your review.

Thanks for the detailed review — I really appreciate how clearly you broke everything down. I read a sample of Almost Mortal myself, and I agree that the plot has a lot of potential. The dual storylines — Sam’s investigation and the journal entries from X — seem like a creative way to build suspense and add depth to the mystery.

That said, I didn’t feel fully hooked by the sample. Like you mentioned, the journal entries seemed to have more energy and intrigue compared to Sam’s part of the story, which might be why it didn’t completely grab me at first. I also tend to treat any mention of certain scenes or language as a red flag — even if they’re not graphic — but it’s reassuring to know they’re minimal and can be skipped.

I’m still on the fence about reading the whole book, but your review definitely gave me a clearer idea of what to expect. If someone gave it to me as a gift, I’d be open to giving it a proper try — especially since the writing and structure seem strong overall.
