"Amber’s Way" by Gloria Galloway is an incredibly heart-warming fictional family story about a lawyer named Jessica and Danny, a man in the Army that called Jessica one night by mistakenly dialing the wrong number. Jessica lost her husband in the Iraq War shortly after their honeymoon and before her daughter Amber was born. Amber’s life was pretty normal until she received a diagnosis of high-risk neuroblastoma, a cancer of the immature nerve cells. She went through cancer treatment and was given a clean bill of health, certified cancer-free. Nine years later she learned the cancer had returned in a much more violent manner. Jessica and Amber were suddenly hoping for the best and preparing for the worst. When Amber was five, she wandered off into the wood with her teddy bear and sandwiches she made before leaving the house. She was lost when the rain began and she found shelter under a cypress tree and hung her clothes to dry in a visible area of the tree. Her mom and the police found her because of the clothes and the officer was amazed how calmly Amber had handled being lost in the woods. Fast forward to the phone call from Danny at 1 a.m. that woke Jessica who had been studying for the bar exam. Her first instinct was to hang up because she was afraid it could be a crank call or a caller that meant her harm. Danny convinced her to stay on the line and they talked for several minutes. Jessica hung up before giving Danny her phone number or any additional information about herself. She tried to sleep and could not so she called Danny back since his number had appeared on her caller ID. Danny was actually waiting for her to call back since he believed they had made a real connection. Danny was in boot camp and he had weeks to go before completion. He called Jessica every few days until he received a weekend pass and planned to come meet Jessica in person. Danny told Jessica he was flying to her home city because he had to see her in person. Jessica drove an old car to the airport and waited for Danny to arrive even though she had no clue what he looked like. When she saw a man with a smile on his face, she knew it had to be Danny and he knew it was her as well. One could say this was love at first sight but the fact that they had been talking on the phone for several weeks they already knew each other quite well. Danny had made a reservation at a nice hotel and a dinner reservation at a nice restaurant called the Mark. Dinner went very well and they returned to the hotel. They kissed several times and realized that they were already in love. The sample was amazing and I cannot wait to read the entire story. I have to note that I was confused by no mention of Amber during the phone calls or when Jessica picked Danny up at the airport. I assume that Amber was grown and on her own but I will find out when I read the rest of the book. I also look forward to Danny completing basic training and being deployed to see how that affecting their romance. I suspect that Danny’s plans to be a doctor after serving in the Army and Jessica’s plan to pass the bar and join a law firm will happen as well as many exciting moments in their relationship.

The life of Jessica is followed by one adversity after the other. She first experiences the loss of her loving husband. Then, few years later, her daughter (Amber) is diagnosed with cancer. Amber fights it successfully but it reappears again in a violent nature. Though there is a lot of pain, the love the Jessica and Amber shares and the fighting spirit of Amber overshadows it.

I agree r ee, from what I read in the sample, the book was well written. Amber reminds me of me in my youth. I was sickly and in and out of hospitals. Not because of cancer, I had other things going on. I love the lightness during the Amber's outlook. I am considering purchasing this book so I can finish reading it. Congratulations on the BOTD. Although I haven't read the book, Amber's story seems to motivate readers to confront life's challenges with bravery, optimism, and thankfulness. I loved the prologue and five-year-old Amber Langston. It's sad to hear that the cancer returned, but I hope they overcome it once again—I love Amber's determination to live her life her way, whatever happens. Congrats on BOTD!

She worked hard to get her dream job, she later bolded her family but unfortunately she lost her husband in the early years and now Jessica now have to face life alone without her husband, most important she must have a life for their daughter and be much stronger to conquer life challenges for Amber and herself.

This sounds like a very good book, but I don't feel like bawling my eyes out now. I might read it at another time. I know a few people who might like this, so I will recommend it. I can't handle it right now, though.
