Yes I am a quiet person - mostly because I am deep in thought and, as a writer, I notice the unnoticeable - or at least try to. I don't know if all writers are quiet people. We are all different. I would imagine that the majority of us are but I'm sure I'm wrong.

Actually, I am so loud, simply because I'm a really angry person and I feel the need to express that anger. However, when I'm around people that don't make me angry (there are about a handful XD) I'm quiet.

Well, of course, I'm quiet while I'm writing. I'm currently putting about 5 hours/day into my new novel and I sit there, laptop accepting my typing, and just write.

Other times however I am not quiet at all. My girlfriend & I are always laughing and chatting (we live together) and we go out with friends and have a lively time.

Writing is work. I'm now retired but when I was working as an engineering consultant to offshore oil exploration and production firms, I was quiet at my work too. When you're juggling deepwater engineering design specs and creating a process control system outline, you're not gonna be dancing and shouting as you pore over parametric functions, right?

I come from a large and loud Asian family and married into an even louder Italian family. Though I love them all the noise is sometimes overwhelming and I find myself retreating to a corner of the house in search of a little mental peace. I am usually pretty quiet and prefer the conversations that require deeper thought rather than the gossip or the headlines.

I am naturally a quiet person. I don't talk much unless I am with people I know. I am okay with it. It helps me with writing since I get lots of time to think.

I'm pretty quite. I don't talk very often, but when I do I am very outspoken.

Though I consider myself a quiet person and many of the writers I have met are similarly introverted, I still find it a bit reductive to assert that, well, "writers are quiet."

I do think that the stereotype of a typical writer is a shy, quiet person. And although there may be writers out there who are shy and quiet, I definitely think that writers can come in all sorts of personalities. I for one am not quiet or introverted. I consider myself very social and outgoing. I do tend to have a lot of ideas and think about a lot of things, and I often like to express those ideas through characters in a story.

I think that's probably a great quality for a writer - children should have a huge amount of inquisitiveness, but also the ability to concentrate for hours building sandcastles. And wiggling their toes in the seawater.

More people should go through life with silly grins. I occasionally burst out laughing for very little reason, myself.Usually it's remembering something funny from the day before and just dropping back 'into the moment.'

Definite yes on being on the quiet side; get me really riled then in the words of David Banner, "You wouldn't like me when I get angry." I'm sure those that read this probably get that quote. It's from The Incredible Hulk. The TV series (admittedly I may have the character name slightly wrong). All somewhat joking aside I am mainly a calm and reserved person though I can get quite explosive when pushed to far; take a sigh of relief because it rarely happens.

I'll tell you something that I find quite ironic. I am an author and I'm here on this forum and I feel like a lost toddler. You all see so opinionated on books and authors; while I on the other hand do not do all that mush reading. I almost feel as if I am giving a speech. Of course I am quite unprepared for it and I am beginning to lose my train of thought and beginning to ramble. So, I think it best at this time if I simply fall back to my old friend silence an shut up now. Peace out.

That sounds exactly like me! I tend to be an introvert and absolutely suck at small talk, but I'm really good at writing.

I don't think most writers are quiet people. I understand that those who are shy tend to find a different way of expressing themselves but I am a quieter person while my friend is the dominating, loud type and we both like writing. Maybe there's a difference between extroverts and introverts? I'm not entirely sure about it though.
