"Hands Across the Sea" by Brian Cook is an interesting story about the Office of the Sheriff (the Agency) in Vasco. The book begins with several deputies and command staffers in the process of getting promoted to higher positions. Then the story goes back in time to describe an elderly man named Garrison Cottrell, the sheriff that single-handedly transformed the Agency from a laughing stock in the community to the best in the country. Garrison learned that he has Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease and his career comes to an end and he needs to pass the torch to his handpicked successor Brendan Callaghan who becomes the 17th sheriff of Vasco. Cottrell’s disease has no known cure and it brings on Dementia or Alzheimer disease rapidly. He was told that he had six to twelve months before the memory disease would become serious. His secretary for 40 years was shocked when he told her about the disease and she told him he should have told her sooner. Cottrell tries spiritual healing to help with his disease since there were no medical procedures that could help him. There are more than a dozen story lines in this novel that is about strong families and friendship bonds in a work environment filled with conspiratorial colleagues that are pushing forward their own agendas. The fictional story is the first book in a saga that is exceptional. Fifteen chapters focused on separate themes. The book contains plenty of humor and the dialog makes the book very enjoyable and readers will find themselves laughing out loud. The book is a very long read and should bring more appreciation for the men and women in blue. Members of law enforcement will really enjoy this book. Since most people appreciate law enforcement readers will be hooked by this first book and want to continue reading the saga penned by Brian Cook, a man with 25 years’ experience in law enforcement. I read the entire sample and it did not describe the conspiratorial colleagues or their hidden agendas so I look forward to learning the details in the remainder of the book.

I would love to read "Hands Across The Sea" by Brian Cook because it has different storylines and interesting characters, and I want to know how Sheriff Cottrell changed a broken agency into the best one.

The book creates a relationship where on sees the sense of search for freedom and opens an eyesight of how injustices are done to people without getting what they fight for as they demand equal rights
