I am not completely familiar with the gnostic mystic theology, but I am one of those who believe that Judas's role in gospel stories has, perhaps, been misinterpreted. The guy gets a bad rap that he doesn't really deserve! I don't know if I'll jump tor had this one just yet, since I'm looking for some lighter fare. But this is a compelling review.
Yes, I recommend something else for lighter reading. :D But if you are interested in the story of Judas, I think you would enjoy this, when you are in the mood for religious academia. Thanks so much for taking the time to read the review and comment.

An in depth review of a book about a very controversial subject. I've always been fascinated by the history of the Bible and I know about the various interpretations of Judas. I could add a lot of extra facts here, but I suppose I should actually read the book itself before I do that. Nevertheless, your review sparked a keen interest in me to do that and I enjoyed it immensely.

Congrats on BOTD.
"Misreading Judas" turns years of biblical convention on its head. Imagine if Judas replaced Jesus as intellectual leader instead of betraying him. A thorough examination of Eastern spirituality, Gnosticism, and the Gospel of Judas that challenges your preconceived notions.

"Misreading Judas" invites one to an interesting revelation. One that is against our traditionally held belief about Jesus and Judas. Am interested in exploring this book to find out how the author lines up his defence to his opinion and thoughts. I will recommend it to a friend too to find it and read it. Congratulations book of the day

The book gives insights to Judas's point of view of of his part, his internal struggles with carrying such a heavy burden betraying Jesus was one of his most regretful choices that lead Jesus to his imposing death.

I would say that such a heavy burden has carried him for a long while.

I have read the review, but I cannot already tell that this departs, indeed, very widely from orthodox Christianity. In fact, the Gospel of Judas would even go against some of the prophecies in the Old Testament books, including Psalms. The book sounds interesting, though. Many thanks for the review, @EvaDar.

You managed to unpack Wahler’s complex thesis in a way that feels both respectful and intellectually stimulating. I appreciate how you acknowledged the controversial nature of the book while still giving space to its merits—especially the comparative analysis and the unique mystical lens Wahler applies. Your summary helped me better understand the significance of his reinterpretation of Judas, and now I’m genuinely curious to read Misreading Judas myself. Whether or not I agree with all of Wahler’s conclusions, I can see how this book could spark some deep reflection and important conversations. Great job!

Bible/Christian/Catholic/Gnostic readers interested in the story of Judas's "betrayal" would be mind blown at the notion of Misreading Judas. I am interested to see why this book has a different take and what events in the records caused this rift.
I write the best reviews possible. :idea2:

Thank you for your review. I sampled a few pages. A book about Judas Iscariot is a deep study of his relationship with Jesus, a story of betrayal in the Bible. The author offers a curious mystical relationship that is handed down by masters. I will pass on this book.

I really appreciate your thorough review of this book. I like reading non fiction books, but I'm not interested in books focused on religion. I always end up having more questions at then end than when I started.

A nice attempt to provide a proof about the popular belief about Jesus of Nazareth was incorrect by offering a new interpretation of the relationship between Jesus and Judas in the book "Misreading Judas" by Robert Wahler.
life is only knowing the unknown, we can do this by reading books easily- Online book club is a great place for this. This is what I believe.

Judas as a self-sacrificing disciple rather than a betrayer really shifts the whole story. The idea of mastership succession rooted in mysticism was new to me and quite fascinating. I’m curious to know more about this complex topic. Congrats on BOTD!

"What if someone provided proof that our long -held beliefs about Jesus of Nazareth were incorrect? Author Robert Wahler is attempting to do just that with his 2016 non-fiction book, Misreading Judas: How Biblical Scholars Missed the Biggest Story of All Time. " This seems to me like a radical shift in my understanding of Judas and Jesus and i agree with the reviewer's comment on reading it with an open mind.
