Audiobooks or the real thing?

I'm not a fan of audiobooks at all. Being a huge Horror fan, I feel like audiobooks can never quite take where I want to go inside of my own imagination. When I read a book I create the characters I want to see and hear their voices in a way that only I can imagine them.

I personally do not like audiobooks. I like having the actual book in my hands and reading at my own pace. I'm also scared that if someone is reading to me, I might miss something important, whereas if I'm reading myself, I can go back to the part I missed and then jump back down to where I left off (as opposed to rewinding the audiobook and then having to listen to the entire thing again). I just don't like being read to I guess; I want to experience the book firsthand.

I love audiobooks! It's the only way to do dishes.

I suggest a double sink full of dishes while Tina Feys bossy pants plays on your iPhone. Ah, that's living.

I don't like audio books for me enjoying a book happens only when I have a real book in my hand.

I started listening to audio books when my eyesight got bad. I was scared that I'll be blind but i dont want to give up books, so from time to time I listen to audio books.

I don't think I would mind audiobooks - if it were for a book I had already read. I would get too distracted listening to a book, and would easily lose focus, especially while driving. I just prefer to truly read one.

I enjoy both.

I read fast, so I always keep a few dozen books on my Kindle, but I also have a half hour drive to get to work. I've been getting audio books on CD from my local library and ripping them to MP3's for my daily commute.

I usually pick trilogies or a nice long series to listen to. I've heard Roy Dotrice read the entire "Song of Ice and Fire" series on my MP3 player.

I have listened to a couple of audio books but prefer having a book in hand or reading from my kindle app. I guess my experience so far with audio has not be good. The reader doesn't seem to put as much feeling in the words as my own thoughts might. I'm more of a visual person. Are there some good ones you might want to suggest I listen to. Maybe it's the ones I chose at the time.

Booknut2 I have been listening to the Jack Reacher series by Lee Child I really enjoy them but our taste may not be the same.

Definitely the real thing. Reading the book is personal and how a book is meant to be. I think an audiobook is for different kinds of books like non fiction.

I prefer actual books. Audiobooks can't seem to keep my attention for very long.

I agree! I can't do audiobooks. I have to have a real book in my hands to fully enjoy the story. I have a lot of friends who enjoy audiobooks since they can listen to the book when they are driving to work or other places, but personally I find them more distracting then enjoyable.

Hmmm. It depends on the book. I love audiobooks because I can work and listen. So a self help book like 'The Now Habit' by Neil Fiore is fine as an audiobook. But I tried reading Divergent as an audiobook and it was an epic fail. The paper back was better because I could create my own vision of the characters and how I wanted them to sound instead of the voice the audiobook narrator gave. And it just felt good to hold a book.

I prefer the real deal, but I've got a few audio books that I want to listen to. I'm currently listening to Blood Promise, and I will listen to the rest of the series. I also have the Throne of Glass series. This is mainly because I want to listen to them in the shower, or while I'm running, or in the car, or even just cooking, or falling a sleep. I own the Throne of Glass books, but I got them for free on Audible, so yea. There's that.
