This sounds like a very interesting book. Something that we all can learn from. We also like to blame God if things don't go our way, but sometimes bad thing have to happen, for the good to come forward. Thanks so a great review. Congrats on BOTD.

I'm sure I will get around to reading this book eventually. I downloaded it for free, so that won't be hard. I somewhat struggle to read books like this. I tend to reread sections because I didn't pay enough attention the first time. Maybe this book will help me establish a better relationship with God!

This is a great book for Christians and believers in general. This book offers great spiritual insight that readers can use in their lives. I appreciate that the book is short but impactful. I also like that the author shares his life experiences such as his stay in prison and failed relationships.

I am happy that the story is not only moving and inspirational, even life-changing, but also that its execution was perfect, earning it a perfect rating. It is true that prisons need reforms, especially when it comes to serving as centers of rehabilitation, not merely punishment. I look forward to poring over this relatively short book. Thank you, @Seetha E, for the amazing review.

Unfortunately, despite the very well-written synopsis, the review failed to catch my interest and entice me to read it. Don't get me wrong, it is nothing personal really, just that such literature doesn't appeal to me on several counts, starting with the fact that I am not religious and, as such, don't find solace in thoughts of God, and ending with the conclusion that a recount of a stranger's experiences is hardly inspiring. Still, congratulations on the BOTD!

I am not a staunch believer in religious teachings but do believe that one needs to lead life with conscience, morality and integrity. The teachings expresses in the books are valuable life lessons for all. I hope to enjoy reading the book. Thank you for a beautiful review!

God’s Kingdom 1313: The Secret Pain is a thoughtful and comforting book made for people who feel sad, lost, or weighed down by the troubles of this world. If you're grieving, sick, scared, or just tired of all the confusion around you, this book offers you hope. Instead of just giving quick advice, it speaks gently to your soul, reminding you that with God, you already have the strength to get through pain, illness, and even fear of death.
The author shares deep thoughts that feel inspired by God and encourages you to see life in a new way—not just through the struggles we face, but through the peace and love that come from trusting in God. You’re reminded that you don’t need to be afraid and that God has already given you a place in His kingdom, where there’s no more sadness or suffering.
The book also helps quiet the noise of the world around us. It reminds us that this life is not all there is, and that something better—something beautiful and eternal—is waiting with God. Reading The Secret Pain feels like sitting down with someone who truly understands your struggles and wants to show you peace and love that never fade.
It’s a book that helps you breathe a little easier and trust a little deeper.

I'm not usually a big fan of religious books, but I like what you wrote in the first paragraph since I also try to stay away from blaming God from my problems. Also, even though the book is short, it seems like the author is effective in discussing much of his life. Based on your review, I see this more of a self-help book for Christians than a book about religion (which I originally thought it was based on the title). Thanks for the review, I'll take a look at it.

God’s Kingdom 1313: The Secret Pain by Mark Hour is a thought-provoking and emotionally intense novel that delves into the complex intersection of faith, identity, and trauma. Blending elements of psychological drama with spiritual allegory, the book follows the journey of a protagonist wrestling with inner turmoil, painful memories, and the haunting weight of religious expectations.

The title “1313” is symbolic, hinting at both biblical allusions and deeper spiritual codes that gradually unfold through the narrative. Mark Hour’s writing is layered and poetic, with passages that feel like sermons mixed with diary entries, inviting readers into the raw, unfiltered mind of someone seeking redemption and understanding in a fractured world.

One of the standout aspects of this book is its fearless exploration of taboo themes—abuse, religious hypocrisy, and mental illness. Hour doesn't shy away from difficult truths, and while this might make the book emotionally heavy for some readers, it’s also what makes it resonate so deeply. The “Secret Pain” referred to in the title is not just the main character’s burden but a universal one—the quiet suffering that many people hide beneath the surface of devotion and duty.

While the narrative can be nonlinear at times, and the prose occasionally leans toward abstract, the emotional authenticity and philosophical depth more than make up for it. This isn’t a light read—it’s a soul-searching experience that challenges readers to confront uncomfortable truths about belief, guilt, and healing.

This is a beautiful book. By searching for God, the author was able to find joy and peace. I love that his stay in prison reformed him and him advocating for environments for reformation rather than punishing is wonderful.

I thank the author for a book like this to help people overcome the pains and difficulties in their life. Indeed, we need to totally change today's prison system, especially in third world countries.
