What faction would you have chosen at 16?

Discuss the June 2014 book of the month Divergent by Veronica Roth. While only Divergent--the first book of the series--is the book of the month, feel free to use this subforum to discuss the rest of the series or to talk about the movies, but make sure not to post spoilers unless noted in the topic title.

I would have probably been born into Erudite because my family is always trying to better themselves with knowledge of what is around them. I would have chose Dauntless, because I always challenged the borders of what my family did and where we went. I always took the more difficult path knowing I would be a stronger person in the end. I think that choice is very similar to the choice I did make at 16 in that I pushed the limitations of how our family did things and I went farther than any of them to achieve my goals as an adult. I also think that I would have found myself divergent because of the tendencies I have toward many other factions.

At 16, I definitely would have chosen Abnegation. I would have most likely gone crazy a year or two later, but I would have been born into Abnegation and stayed there. It's not that I am or was completely selfless, but I strived to prove that beauty is only skin deep and the greatest gift is giving.

This is hard to decide because I see so much of each faction in my family. Overall, I believe my family would have been Dauntless turn Abnegation. It seems weird, but I can see it happening with the way my family has evolved over the years. Me, I would have chosen Erudite because I have always been a nerd. My second choice would have been Amity. They remind me of hippies. I would love to be “free” but it just isn’t me. I like the idea of sitting with my nose in a book.

I would have been born into Abnegation, I think... My parents fit well in that category, though it seems my dad would be an Erudite-Abnegation transfer and mom would be Amity-Abnegation transfer. I would be terrified to have to choose my future at such a young age, especially if it meant leaving my parents. But my selection at the choosing ceremony would be Amity. I'm overly happy almost all the time I even annoy myself. Plus I play the guitar. I belong in Amity ♥♥♥

Growing up in my family, we always did volunteer work and iv'e personally accumulated more than 1200 hours of volunteer work . We were taught at an early age that even though we've been fortunate financially and stability, it is not something we put in others gave nor indulge ridiculously in. We were taught to help others before ourselves.
At age 16, I probably would have picked Dauntless. From an early age, I was known as the wild child, being the first to take risks. Now as a college student, I have the mentality of being able to conquer the world, stupid right ? But because of that, I've been brave. I've hiked some of the tallest mountains on this island of Hawaa, I've rock climbed in risky situations, I've cliff jumped 240 feet, and am currently training to conquer Mount Everest in 2015.

I would've been born into abnegation because growing up my family taught me to put others before myself and that beauty is on the inside
Thinking back to when I was sixteen, I was rebellious so would ha e chosen dauntless at the choosing ceremony. I thought I was invincible and brave back then lol. I believe that choosing while faction you were going to live in at 16 is no different than how we choose our career paths and lives at 16 right now. We still have our family and friends that persuade us just as they did in the factions but it all comes down to what you want in your life.

At a age 16 i would of choosen Dauntless due to their bravery. Basically, they can do almost anything they want without rules and gives them a chance to explore the world. In my opinion within this faction you can be peaceful, honest, helpful, intellegent, and brave enough to stand up for your beleifs. :)

I probably wouldve been born into dauntless. My family is not very united or caring for others and is a very "ever man for thenselves" kind of environment. I however am like the black sheep of he family and wouldve transfered into abnegation, the selfless. Ive had so many troubles throughout the year that its just easier and betrer for me to be the one to help out others before myself. Im not brave, or focused on education and cant always be truthful due to being afraid of hurting peoples feelings at times, and i just dont like gardening and being out working like that. 16 seems to be a reasonable age to choose your path for some people but for others, it could just be out of spite.

I don't think my family fits into any of the factions. So maybe I would have been born factionless. Which one would I choose? I'd say none. I'd rather be Divergent. :-)

But if I had to choose at the choosing ceremony, I suppose I would pick... Amity. I don't like to stir the waters.

I feel like I would end up categorizing as a divergent because I am selfless, smart/nerdy, and a big dare-devil. With these descriptions I would be in abnegation, erudite, and dauntless. At the end I would probably choose dauntless because abnegation doesn't have hamburgers and dauntless is more carefree and fun to be in.

I think mine would've been born into Erudite, due to my dad being a principal and the line of field most of my family ended up in. I think I probably would've picked the same at 16. Although Dauntless would've had a lot of appeal, I've always been a knowledge geek. I was even more so when I was 16. I was such a geek that I actually got my associates degree before I graduated from high school via concurrent enrollment. Now, thankfully, I've learned the art of a balanced life, but I'm still an Erudite at heart.

At 16 I probably would have chosen Erudite. Now, just six years later I would choose Amity.
