Can't get the list down to one. Brad Pitt, Eric Christian Olsen, Aidan Turner. That about does it, I guess. There are others I wouldn't turn down a night on the town with, but those three are the top of the list.

Brad Pitt did a great job in "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button." I just saw it a month ago and I thought both he and Cate Blanchett were brilliant. She's one of my favorites. Of course, in "Button" I was thinking, "Stupid, stupid, stupid! Go with him now!!!" Oh, and I was so mad when he left I wanted to throw something at the T.V. screen. No, I'm not in any way fanatical... Pitt I like especially for the aforementioned film and for his work in "The Legends of the Fall." The latter film showcased the dynamic talents of my favorite actor, Anthony Hopkins, too. Double joy. I usually watch those kinds of movies on T.V. because of content I just don't want to see. I think the extra violence is unnecessary.

He was brilliant in Legends of the Fall, but his best role ever was a film few people saw and fewer really understood: The Devil's Own. Kinda went over most Americans' heads a bit. The original script was crap, but Brad Pitt told them 1. He would not work from an unfinished script and 2. If he took the role, it would be written with respect for the character he was playing. Because of that, it ended up being awesome.

Benjamin Button wasn't my favorite. He was good as always, and they literally had to create an entire new technology for his face, which was amazing, but the movie felt to me like a three hour funeral.

Understandable. It was extraordinarily somber, I admit. I don't know, I guess I like movies like that. I'm one of those junkies who frequently O.D.s on sap. :P I'm a sucker for grand opera, dramatic movies and shows, poetry, novels, novellas, and short stories. There's something beautiful in human sadness... That doesn't sound too odd, does it?

Human sadness? That's just sad... Nah! I just can't resist word play! I totally know what you mean. Give me a hero with baggage any day. Funny thing is, we'd none of us be able to deal with those characters in real life. Always moping around, and lashing out at people. I'd be the first one to say, "Dude, get over yourself already. So you went through a trauma. So have millions of other people. Doesn't give you the right to be an ass." Why do we find them so attractive in a book or a movie? One of my favorite TV characters slaughtered a whole subway train full of innocent people one night in a rage over something that happened earlier in the day. And people kept giving him a hard time over it. I hated that. I mean, give the poor guy a break! He'd had a really tough day. And he feels bad enough about it already.

 You're right, anomalocaris, we probably wouldn't be able to deal with some of those dramatic characters we all love watching if we met them at a party one night. Then again, I get irritated when I see them do, well, irritating things on T.V. I mean, chill, right?

See, and you have my same problem. People are always criticizing my favorite characters because they do something... unconventional with their pain and rage. I mean, sure Bette Davis killed her cousin for trying to ruin her life in "Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte?" but wouldn't you think about it? Come on, wouldn't that cross YOUR mind???

I'm frequently asked, "Really?" in a more than merely inquisitive tone by my friends when I tell them about my favorite heroes and villains, all of which are very complicated, several of them sung (What? Opera's grand! It's right in the term!) because they're charming, calculating, over- the- top emotional... well... you know what I mean... and their element, of course, is very dark. My friends are into military characters... There's always a black sheep in the group, right? Ha, ha... That wasn't meant to be a pun... :D

Good choice. A lot of good ones over the years. One that comes to mind is Rod Steiger.
