This is very, very true. I like reading both 1st & narrator, but I feel that I truly suck at writing 1st person.

One advantage narrator has over 1st person. With 1st person, everything is (or should be) influenced by the characters perspective. With narrator, it should be more impartial.

I prefer a narrator. I feel that when it is written in 1st person there is so much that we are unable to know. If written using a narrator, we can see all aspects of each character.

I typically prefer first person because it brings me into the story more. It feels more like the narrator is speaking directly to me.

If it's a good book it doesn't matter to me. If it's a slow starter I prefer it to be first person.

Depends on the book, really. Some are better narrated, others need to be written in 1st person

I prefer the first person telling the story because it gives you the feeling of intimacy, like you are with a very close friend. It is easy to understand and sympathize with the predicament of the character because you know his thoughts and his feelings.
