I suppose it is an interruption when the cat just saunters over the book that you are reading. I think that is quite rude!

Yes and no.

If you are interrupting for a purpose, for example to ask an important question or relay something important, by all means.

But if you see me chilling in the breakroom reading my nook, please don't talk to me. I want to read. Go away. Shoo.

Yes definitely rude! I can't stand when I'm in the middle of a great book and someone obviously sees I'm enjoying myself. Only time it is appropriate is if there's an emergency. I just love reading

Yes, it is very rude to interrupt someone who is reading if the situation is not an emergency. I would greatly appreciate it if someone would warn me that the house was on fire or the apocalypse had just begun but it is irritating for someone to disrupt reading time with "hey, what-cha reading'?"

Sometimes, I think it rude. I try not to interrupt someone when they are reading and I expect the same from others.

i'd say yes only because it distracts from whatever picture you had in your head. It disrupts the flow.

I hate to be interrupted when I'm reading, so I try to not do it to other people. Especially for me, when someone can clearly see I'm reading, even if its just an article in the paper, and they are talking to me about nothing...just making small talk. I'm not interested, let me read whatever i'm reading in peace. Unless it's pertaining to what I'm reading, or very important. Please do no interrupt

There's an episode of "The Middle' that comes to mind when I saw this. The character Brick was reading and his dad said something to him. He just put up his finger like "wait I'm in the middle of something" and the discussion was whether he was being rude by not responding. Sadly, in everyday life, there are interruptions like work, family or sleep that interrupts me from reading. My future spouse and my child don't "get" that its rude to interrupt someone while reading because they are not readers themselves. I personally don't like to be in the middle of another world and then suddenly brought back to the "real world" to been asked a redundant question like where are my shoes etc.

My biggest interruption to reading has been this forum lately! But I think that it had been a good interruption because this forum is really so very cool to be on. Almost addicting!

Well, talking about reading and books is as fun as reading itself.

Yes, I find it to be rude. I hate when people do it to me. It's terrible to be immersed in a world and then have people asking me questions or opinions on things that aren't related to that book. I get easily annoyed by this so I wouldn't do it to someone else. It's actually a huge pet peeve of mine.

Yes! Always! Because I hate it when someone interrupts me when I am reading. I do tend to zone out when I am reading a good book so I guess sometimes I make the person work for it.

Knowing how difficult it is for some people with comprehension issues, I do feel it is rude to interrupt them while they are reading. I live with an 88 year old father-in-law who only has an 8th grade education. Sometimes when I watch him read it is obvious that he really has to work to sound out words and their meanings. So I do not disturb him until he looks up from his page. In working with children the same applies. As for myself, I am so used to getting interrupted that when I try to read that I generally always mark my place with my finger. Sticky notes work better but I do not always have them. Depending on the number of interruptions I may have to read a paragraph several times in order to get to read it once.
