The word lady is an old Saxon word meaning bread giver. It came from way back when women gave loaves of bread to the poor. So good morning all you bread givers out there.

That makes sense.

Where giving someone the finger came from comes from one of the wars the English had with the French a few hundred years ago. The English had crossbows, they were one of the deadliest weapons at that time. The French said when they heard the English were going to invade one of their castles, they would capture all the crossbow archers and cut off their middle fingers, which was used to pull the trigger on a crossbow. The English heard that, so when they went into battle the crossbow archers held up their middle fingers at the French. So if someone gives you the finger, just holler at them "Wheres your crossbow, a-hole!!"
