unfortunately, I do not use bookmarks, because they always get lost. I have a bad habit of folding the edge of the page

I have four bookmarks that I use: paperclip, post it notes, my initial on a string, and a magnetic bookmark with a picture of a cat on it. When I read from my nook I don't have to use a bookmark. It automatically opens to the page I left off with.

Bookmarks are anything that can stay in the book and not bend it too much. Right now Eldest has an origami samurai hat as it's place marker.

Have you ever found a strange/unusual bookmark in a used or library book? I have, it was a folded $20 bill in the middle of a used/donated book from a sale at my local library I paid 50 cents for it. Didn't realize my good fortune until I got home. Made my day!

Sadly, I lose bookmarks ALL THE TIME! My books tend to go with me wherever I go so the bookmarks seem to get left behind when I am on the move. That being the case, I am an opportunist and use whatever I can find (receipts, coupons, paper clips, my daughter's hair bows).

I usually lose bookmarks. I tend to either remember the page number where I left off or I use the receipt I got when I purchased the book (sometimes even the price sticker off the book folded in half).

I end up using whatever I can reach. Often that is just scrap paper, an index card, a postit, or a receipt. I have used pictures many times. But I still enjoy buying fun bookmarks when they are at the checkout of bookstores. I probably have a whole pile of Harry Potter bookmarks somewhere from years ago.

Anything, for the time being I do have a real bookmark, one in 3D with a lion on it but else I can use anything from a cash register receipt to a strain of hair.
