1st person or a narrator?

I have enjoyed novels written both ways. With first person you do get to know the character well, but it wouldn't work in every story. It's too limiting in some cases.

I prefer 1st person. I feel like they are talking directly to me about things that have happened in their life. It feels more intimate.

As others have said, it depends on the nature of the book. I do feel that first-person narration can feel a bit limited after a while.

Do you ever see books that are second person? and I don't mean those choose your own adventure books, but something else. Just a random story in 2nd person>? That would be cool... or not.

For some reason I really dislike first person stories. I feel like they make the writing seem more juvenile, unless it's very well written. I'm more prone to liking 3rd person narrative because I like the level of description it gives to all the characters.

Both are good for me, though narrator tells a lot more details and can be more psychological at times, which is great.

I prefer first person because it makes me feel more involved in the story. I think I get more insight into a character's feeling and motivation when first person is used. Narrator makes the writing feel more mechanical, although some may say if you are a good writer that should not be a problem. Sometimes it depends on the story I don't think I would enjoy a romance novel with a narrator. However if the book is a thriller or horror a narrator could make the story more suspenseful than first person. If you don't know the bad guys are bad or that they are close to winning will you fear for the character?

I'll read anyone. I sometimes get annoyed by 1st person when the character is naive. I get annoyed by narrator is they repeat phrases like "She walked," "He said" you know?

It really depends. I think that each story has its own way of being told effectively. I also believe any story works both ways but then it depends on the writer and how he feels it must be done and how comfortable he/she feels with it.
