Fave Kitchen Gadgets?

Post by suzy1124 »

The last 2 I've ordered............ a potato chip maker ( in under 3 minutes ), and a food mill, ( to grind meat for my own burgers )

Both " manually " operated which I prefer to " electric "...........not into " overly processed /baby food type textured ( Cuisinart)

What's yours ?

My apple corer/peeler is pretty cool. It's great during apple season and canning.

Ooh funny story. I needed a potato peeler. You know one of those cheap little nothings. I bought about 3 different ones and they didn't peel well. Really?? Grr…how can a peeler not peel well. What happened to the ones I grew up with :x Anyway while visiting my in-laws in NY my husband mentions this to his mother. She gave me hers…it must be 40 years old and I cherish it, lol. Little things make me happy.

I like doing things manually too. I like making my dough and kneading it by hand. I also make a lot of messes in my kitchen

Hi Gali….

I have been looking into buying a toaster oven. I get tired of turning the big oven on for small things.

Hmm…I think I should visit both of you for fresh potato chips

Can't live w/o my toaster oven, I only used my big oven once a year to cook a turkey...otherwise I use it for pots and pans storage...

Can't live w/o my blender either, one of the few things " electrical " that I love besides my " yogurt-maker "...

Also, my Nesco portable oven ( it's like a giant crock-pot ), love it for corned beef, brisket, stews and pot roast...

I've never peeled a potato in my life, but if I did, I just saw on a tv cooking show, that the peel just SLIDES off AFTER they're cooked!
I'm also in love w/my garlic presser! ( I use copious amounts of garlic on a daily basis )

Wow you have never peeled a potato? Do you make mashed potatoes? What about carrots?

Yes the skins slide off if you boil them. It also works on fruits like peaches, pears and plums, and tomatoes. I drop them in boiling water for 30 seconds or so when I do my canning.

I like my immersion blender for apple butter/sauce and soups.

I actually have a bell! ( but I'm the butler ) heehe...

Ylisa, when you throw the peel away, you throw away the most nutritious part of the fruit /vegetable........for me nothing trumps the flavor of French fries and mashed taters than w /the peel on...

And what about a baked potato ?...love, love the contrast between the crispy outside and the fluffy interior baked ( in my toaster oven, never a microwave )

My Ninja gadgets are my best ones. I have two versions of the blender along with their cooker as well. It is great for making spaghetti and meatballs in. Very yummy!

Or the number pad for take out

Suzy-I love the skins but not everyone in my family does. I brought 2 coolers full of fresh garden veggies for my family in NY last August. So here is how the salad making went…
I washed and chopped the tomatoes.
"you're not putting the seeds in right?"
OK..I will deseed it for you and leave some in for others.

Washed and started slicing cukes.
"why are you putting the skin in?"
OK I'll leave it out for you.
"Are you leaving the seeds in"?
Ugh…that was three different people, lol.

Oh vey people and their food pickiness drives me crazy  .

Me…I like it all…including the skins. I do have to take the skins off the tomatoes when I can tomatoes and make salsa.

My favourite is the Actifry. Fries chips, chicken wings, dim sims, wedges anything really, without any oil at all. Keeps it really healthy but still has the flavour of proper fried food. Had it for nearly eight years and use it at least three to four times a week.

Runner up would be the mandolin slicer. I love that little guy.
