I'm a serious writer, but my life is always pulling me this way and that--I can't really commit 100% to writing only, or to doing it for X hours a day. As for the "seriousness" debate, I am in the zone when I'm feeling funny and seeing the comic potential. (Of course, no one alive gets my sense of humor, but that's neither here nor there.) I'm inspired to write something I'd enjoy reading, and I'm inspired to write something uplifting rather than depressing or too realistic. I also love happy endings and surprise endings and atmospheric escapism.
